That's fair, that was a really bad game. That said, when Wagner plays like Jalen Green normally does, it's a fluke bad game.... when Jalen plays like Wagner normally does, it's a fluke good game.
I thought he was going to be a superstar, All Star seems a little low. Franz never had that sort of ceiling if we are talking about it but he has been solid every year.
He still can be, his book isnt written. But if hes an all-star than thats still great for the rockets and great for a young #2 pick. Cant let pre draft expectations blind you forever.
This is so overblown imo. This isnt the Morey era of cap flexibility. Even at a max he would be able to be moved later. He will get a very handsome contract whether with us or without.
I would still be cautious because the cautionary tales of Westbrook and Dwert came to my mind...... Once they had their injuries and their athleticism was fading, they were different players. And I know Jalen wants to be finesse but he is a fake one. He was all about volume in his first 2 years and that got him through ....volume attempts. The years are more important than the actual money..........4 years instead of 5.
How is it overblown when we literally have 6 FRPs to pay if we keep them all - and we can't pay them all handsomely.....so you identify the 2-4 you keep and trade the other 2-3. DD
They dont get paid at the same time. Even if Jalen falls off a cliff drastically and hea on the 1st year of a near max we would be able to trade him and move on to make room for paying another youngster if we had to. Terrible contracts get moved all the time. Bad ones more often. In Jalens worst case scenario under contract, he isnt preventing future moves. Most likely he will be a lot more valuable than that and make it even easier.
Jalen is already one of the worst players in the league and one of the worst players in the league... if he "falls off a cliff drastically" he wouldn't even be good enough for China. Giving the max to the worst player drafted in the first round by your team since 2021 that is still with the team is effectively a franchise committing suicide.
Yes, but with a cost. The worse the contract, the higher the cost to move it. Remember Ryan Anderson? We needed to give Phoenix a decent role player in Melton and take back two useless players in Chriss and Knight. The only benefit of that trade for the Rockets was that one useless player was broken into two thereby a bit easier to trade. And the price was a decent role player. See how Washington faired with John Wall's bad contract? The only player they could trade him for was an equally bad contract in Westbrook. Bad contracts can hamper a team for several years of building a good roster.
They 100% DO get paid at the same time, for the next 3 years we have the same situation......and once we pay one the max, and if the two behind them deserve it we would not be able to do it...if we have already paid someone close to it..... This year, Sengun and Green are in their final MAX availability Next year, Jabari, and Tari Following Year Amen and Cam So, the risk of going to RFA is that someone can review your team's cap and OVERPAY for someone they want, forcing us to not match and not get anything for a serviceable asset. You want to be able to navigate the 2.5 or so you pay the max to, trade others if you have to for pieces to build around those 3 players.....no way in hell we keep even 5..... DD
