People saying size dominates didn't even realize Minny started Kat at C and 6'9 Kyle Anderson at PF smh. Minny is winning because of their suffocating perimeter defense and the individual brilliance of Ant, Kat and Naz Reid.
Size matters? Ok, the Rockets traded for Steven Adams and eventually hope to have a starting lineup of Sengun, Smith, Eason, Green, and Thompson with Whitmore off the bench. That's not enough size coupled with athleticism for ya?
I agree that you need long players that can switch as that has been the trend past few years. I also believe one of the issues the Rockets has is lack of a 4 or 3 that can dribble drive effectively. i see the vision but is Edey a good roll man? The reason they got Adams was because he’s a great high screen and roll player that’s a proven paint defender.
Are they? The Thunder aren’t big. The Celtics without Prozingis aren’t big. What these playoffs are telling us is that there is no “one answer.” It’s important to have an identity and players who fit that identity.
Gobert was DNP. KAT and Reid are pretty bad defenders but they are defending well as a team. The main reason Denver is failing is Jokic and Murray performing much below their top form. If anything, you can deduce that you can win even with the worst defenders if you have a good overall construction. Also if size is the answer, how do you explain Cleveland hardly scoring 100 points and that's with mitchell carrying the scoring load?
Let me ask you this? Since size doesn't matter, what if KAT was 6'5 - 6'6, similar to Chuck Hayes and Anderson was 6'4, similar to PJ Tucker, do you think they would be just as good as they are now? Both Hayes and PJ were very good defenders but they were LIMITED, due to their size, correct?
So you were arguing size matters vs size doesn't matter? We thought you would have realized that size matters at some point watching basketball for years and had some sort of a more nuanced claim. Thanks for clearing it up.
Edey has a left - right finish as a post player that if you play your cards right and surround him with 3-point shooters can creat havoc for the defense. 7'4" and his mass creates a problem for one on one defender. Others have to drop/leave their assignments because even bigs have a hard time from stopping him from showing left hand shot and then he uses his body to seal off defender and switch to right hand shot. Vice-Versa. Allows 3-point shooter to be open somewhere. Sengun is also a force in the post but the difference is I want Edey for rim protection above the rim. The other thing is that hook shot presents problems up to 10 feet out. Practically automatic. It's Mark Eaton meets Kareem Abdul Jabari like. Jabari was not an all time scoring champ for nothing. Every big should learn a sky hook or version of hook shot. Facilitators Jalen Green (teams double teamed him at times) Sengun Cam Whitmore Jabari (still being taught) ?FVv, Tyus Jones (FA)?, other (FA)? Roll Man Sengun Amen (Scored high as roll Man) Jabari Tari, Cam Whitmore Jock Landale? , S Adams ? Edey would be low PnR.....7'4"....long arms....body mass you have to get in front of.....if he receives the ball by mid restricted area with nobody in his path, It's over. Dunk, dunk and a foul, missed dunk with a foul. Charge if player is quick enough, Edey usually just leans over after receiving ball and gets the call. Shooters I want the whole team to be 3-point shooters. So minus Steven Adams and/or Edey
RIGHT - but actually if Sengun doesn't learn to shoot, it also limits how we can utilize Amen because he also cant shoot but he also happens to be maybe our best defender.....so the real answer is Sengun needs to become a better shooter to unlock flexibility within our roster.
Also the fact that Sengun is much closer to being a competent shooter than Amen means Sengun is probably the one who has to make that leap as a respectable shooter because Amen is just so... Far away from that point. Sengun has a shot at becoming a respectable shooter by next season. If Amen becomes that it is going to take multiple seasons.
