Haha. Of course lol It just cracks me up. We have a few posters who consistently try to project the absurdity that they have some superior understanding of the complex nuances of baseball to the rest of us. And then they say the dumbest **** on here.
I thought he was going to be really good. Bought a game used bat and jersey. Was pumped when he came up and started hot. Then when he smoked and drank himself out of the majors I figured that was it. Happy to see this but my expectations are still tempered
I was talking about Jon *this year* not *prospect Jon* 15 years ago I love what he's doing and hopes he keeps it up as long as he can.
My take away was: Do drugs so that you can get your mind right and eventually reach your true potential.
As long as he doesn't have to take a step, sure his glove is fine if he reach it standing up or even falling over (he's fielded at least 2 grounders this season by just falling over). That gap between him and Altuve is huge.
Singleton has gotten himself in better shape than he has been in a decade. He is still a very big man, but he has trimmed a lot of fat off his body. As for his bat - I thought he had a chance to be Mo Vaughn seeing him in the low minors. He spiraled out of control with weed and food and really had work ethic issues. In fairness his dad was dying at the time and he was financially supporting him. His wife is supposed to be really supportive and Singleton is now a hard worker and good guy from what those around the team say. I thought his bat was too slow, but we will see if Singleton keeps it up. It would be really cool if he had even an 800 OPS season as a starter and could make good on the talent he was born with - credit to him for keeping it up.
If the Astros didn't like his work ethic, attitude, and potential to be a viable backup to Abreu he never would have made the playoff roster last year or stayed on the 40 man throughout the winner With his limited versatility at the easiest cheapest position there is to fill, they pick some JAG if there is anything at all they don't like. They had opportunity to get dozens of different guys. We named them all. We cried over them all. But they stuck with him. They may not have expected more than 7-10 PAs per week but there is no way they expected below 100 wRC+/OPS+ when he did play or he would be gone I think Steamer had him at 110 preseason and that feels very likely (and valuable)
I was on the Jon Singleton bandwagon, and I really thought he would be a perennial-all-star. He was as close to a can’t miss prospect that the Astros had. I commend his perseverance and tenacity to stick with his dream. He’s gotten this far based on his demeanor and grit; because ML clubs aren’t kind nor patient with aging minor leaguers.
