His game has never been passing. Since college and likely high school. Passing and moving the ball is part of the half court game. No coach directs players to plow thru 3 players in the paint or not look to make plays off the dribble. That’s absurd.
Edwards and Green are two very different players. Edwards is bigger and stronger while Green is quicker. Edwards didn’t really love the game entering the league but seems to have really grown into it. Edwards also has an exceptional head coach for his style of play and has awesome help around him. No - I don’t expect Green to be as good as Edwards but Green still has a lot of unrealized upside. Edwards and Banchero have really stepped up in this post season.
Pretty crazy how some can still come to this conclusion. I think Jalen is closer to accepting a role as a 6th man or be out of the league in 3 years than becoming a top 3 shooting guard in nba. Hes not even the best shooting guard on his own team.
Edwards is capital "A" Alpha. Listen to him talk. The mentality there to be a killer and the confidence and swagger are off the charts. So aside from the physical difference between the 2 players that mental approach is a big one. Jalen showed some glimpses of it during his March run. But that needs to be his BASELINE mentality moving forward. Can't be a front runner. When Jalen steps on the court he needs to mentally say to himself "I am the best player on the floor and I am going to kill those guys." And BELIEVE IT.
Jalen Green is not professional enough to be like an Anthony Edwards. He's just in this for the s***s and giggles.
I strongly disagree, he has the confidence... he thinks he's amazing, the problem is that he doesn't have the competence. He's more than willing to say "I am the best player on the floor and I am going to kill those guys" and he definitely believes it.... then he goes and gets blocked at the rim over and over again, shoots 20% from 3, and scores 16 points on 20 shots with 8 FTA's. The issue is a shortage of talent, he's got false confidence for days.
Green has one of the widest range of possible outcomes in the entire NBA and a lot of it is within his control. If Green becomes a 6th man that's because he didn't put in the work this summer. Just to be clear, I'm not predicting he will be a top 3 SG in the NBA, just saying the only thing stopping him from achieving that is the effort he puts into it (starting with his shooting).
A player doesn't dominate the ball and chuck as many shots per game as Jalen does if they don't have confidence. You can argue that he SHOULDN'T have confidence given his lack of talent, but he certainly has it anyway. The issue is that he's just not good at basketball.
The mental aspect is a big part of it. Honestly he doesn't look like he enjoys playing basketball. He looks like he's fine with the paycheck. Maybe it's the bad habits he developed under Silas, but he has to make a major leap next year. Like there is no consistency to has game which is why I think he could be a great 6th man. Just come and jack up a bunch of shots off the bench.
"Listen to him talk". It's opinions like these I realize how America is so suspectable to things like mlm schemes and prosperity gospel bs.
Oh how does one look like when they like basketball? Does Green need to film himself looking at a group of gay dudes congregating and minding their own business and explain how the world has gone to ****?
He would look engaged in the game. Dudes head seems to be in the clouds. He is lost a lot on defense and if he doesn't have the ball he stands around and does absolutely nothing.
When he improves in his engagement on defense would you acknowledge it or just regurgitate the same platitudes? My question is wouldn't difference in his play on the court change your words on him?
I think Jalen works hard enough. I just don't think he's a good shooter. Kobe's work ethic is legendary. He was a career 32% 3pt shooter. No matter how many hours Kobe spent in the Gym he wasn't going to turn into Steph Curry. I'm not saying Jalen can't get better. I just don't think work ethic is the issue. From everything we've heard from coaches and teammates he works his ass off. Even through his struggles last year they said he just grinded harder in the gym.
If he was good, people would say he's good. The real question is, how long can he be a pathetic failure before you'll admit he's bad? So far we're 3 years in and you foolishly still cling to your blind faith in his superstardom despite all evidence to the contrary.
I have been disappointed in his tenacity (not to be confused with work ethic). I read a lot about his work ethic pre-draft, watched his story about how much effort he put into his game, but I only see that fire when he is making shots. It is a concern of mine. That being said even though his tenacity isn't what I wanted (at all times) his effort has improved a lot this year and I think having Ime, Brooks, FVV, and Adams can help bring it out of him even more.
Is Ja that good of a defender? I always had the impression he was just OK SGA has a 6'11" wingspan to Jalen's 6'7". He has fantastic hands too. More similar to Amen in that regard. Jalen will probably never average 3 stocks or even come particularly close. I'm not saying Jalen is doomed to be a bad defender. He's already made great strides and is probably fringe-average now. I just don't see him ever being a really high-level guy on that end.
