hello everybody. i'm a 24years old chinese guy.i am fond of basketball and rocket team. i am a rocket fan and a yao fan too. i wanna make foreign friends with everbody here.you can know more about china from me.we can talk about anything we are interseting ,just like nba ¡¢soccer¡¢hiphop ¡¢e-game and so on. my MSN:lijj@firstlink.com.cn whichever country ,please join in me. come on .dude.
As tempting as that sounds, I'm going to have to take a pass. But seriously, if you want to make friends on this board, just participate in threads. It's basically what this whole thing is all about, interacting and discussing topics with a bunch of people. Also it doesn't hurt if you post a picture of yourself without a shirt, while wearing socks, and with a cereal box in the background.
lol... maybe you can ask him for a chinese girlfriend. hip hop? i guess i can be friends with you as long as you're not a diehard jay chou fan.
Aceshigh7 Sir Jackie Chiles thank your reply. do you have some chat tool ,just like ICQ or MSN? as you readed, my English is poor and my english speaking is awful ugly.i wanna to improve my English because im instresting in it. on the other hand English is unbelievable important in my homeland,if one chinese strudent in university cant pass the cet 4 (a exam about English),he wont graduate . i wanna make foreign friends ,but everybody is chinese around me.how poor! i have some chances chat with foreign guys.the one is in my campus's basketball ground i played with a foreign languange teacher ,an american white man same tall with me about 175 cm.i play basketball is best in my shool. but he is better than me.his shoot ¡¢jump¡¢strength is very good.in that day,i dont know how to begin chat with him,but he said to me,"foul!",that is all he said. another chance is in invite applications for a job.the company manager is a young french.i guess he never understand my "English".after my introduce ,he said "thank u",and then handshake, and then over. and now you know how painful a foreign guy wanna study English.
here's some social commentary. speaking of the english level tests... you have to pass level 4 to graduate college and level 6 to get into grad school. and because of the high level of competition caused by the dense population to get a good job without connections you basically need grad school, and hence level 6 english. two of my cousins are struggling mightily to do it. the problem is that they are too reluctant/shy to try to speak it, they only go and read and memorize... as is the Chinese way of education actually. so jjryu is actually on the right track just with effort alone. meanwhile what i don't understand is why english has become so prominent in China. it's a primary subject just like Math now. i do understand the need for level 6 english in certain grad schools such as the sciences or medicine (you need to be able to read journals), but for all graduate programs, even Chinese lit and performance arts? c'mon. recovering from jetlag...
that's wrong but so true... take a 20 year old german or austrian or swede, put him in america for 5 years --> no accent. average 20 year old french guy will have an accent all his life.
i am form wuhan. m_cable. not i dont want to participate in threads,i just often dont know how to put in english. girlfriend? even if i introduce a chinese girl ,you are far away¡_¡_
That's cause that f@#$ing accent will land him all the choice babes he wants. What kind of reinforcement is that for a guy. BTW: I used to work with this one girl from Burma who had been in America about 5 years, and she had no hint of an accent. I was pretty impressed.
was she hot? lol... yeah french accent. how do you explain the chinese guys keeping their accents then? certainly that's not viewed as sexy... or is it??
yipengzhao are you chinese?English education indeed is a problem in china. I pass cet 6 but my English is still poor.now i struggled to clean accent.i have to listen the english record repeatedly.and imitate the English accent one words by one words.
jjryulee The best way to learn english is to immerse yourself in the language and speak it all the time. Since you are in China, that will be pretty much impossible. One suggestion would be for you to watch American movies in English, with English subtitles. That gives you a chance to hear the words from native speakers, while reading along. To improve your writing skills, you just have to practice a lot. If you don't know how to put it down in words, try reading all the responses in the thread and study how other people use their wordings. Then make some attempts at participation. To be honest, I'm not sure if a message board is the best way to learn, and personally, I really don't think chatting is the way to go either, because it involves so much quick thinking and typing in order to have a conversation. But if you're determined you will be able to learn and get better. But the one thing I will stress to you again, is to practice. That's the most important thing.
She was kinda cute. But she had a boyfriend, and I had a girlfriend at the time so whatever. How do I explain the chinese accents? I don't know. I will say that it doesn't help that some ethnic groups will stick together and continue speaking their native language to each other. That doesn't help things at all. And maybe it's just that the Chinese language is so different than English. It's not even close to the Romance languages in anything.
m_cable thank your suggestion . i doubt i watch more american movies than a common american.and i found a lot movie fans on this board. i came this board because yao, clutch bbs is first foreign bbs to me.when i came here first time,i dont know the meaning of"suck"and"dude",even after i checked dictionary.heee.
was it a chinese girlfriend? oh i was just joking about the chinese accent... there solid linguistic evidence about why italian/french speakers will have accents and germanic languages speakers won't. i'm sure it applies to chinese speakers too. i mean most sounds in english are also in german, but that's not true for languages such as russian, chinese, or french. there's even a difference between the ability to speak accent-free english among adults from northern and southern china. i wonder if you've noticed that. surely environmental factors are important (southern chinese tend to aggregate more) but also different chinese dialects utilize different sounds, and northern chinese are able to master a few sounds that are difficult for southern chinese... i know this from my 4 years of teaching english to chinese immigrants.
