He gets paid regardless of his own or the team's performance. The team can make the decision whether to continue investing in his playing time along with his big paycheck. Astros released Carlos Gomez for performance (and then some) for much less.

Watch them IL him for 10 days. Back issues. Or washed up issues.

I think the Astros are afraid to take a loss especially a player Baggy strongly endorsed. He should start unbuttoning his shirt like last year so he won't feel the heat.

Perhaps the worst Astro's signing and contract ever. He makes millions for being absolutely awful. He will likely be sitting very soon. I would reassign him, and make him work at something during the term of the contract. Maybe the clean up crew.

They need to put him on the IL, give him 2 weeks off and then send him to AAA for a "rehab" assignment. If he can't hit there, DFA him.

If Pop can rest Duncan and Parker for "old"... we can do the same for Abreu.

Exactly this. They need to at least try SOMETHING. This makes as much sense as anything.

The error today was a bad hop. **** happens. Not excusing the fact that he's probably the worst position player in baseball right now, but that was a weird bounce.

This is worse than the Texans signing Ed Reed or when the Rockets signed Ryan Anderson.

I’m drawing a blank now but the Astros signed a SP, I think after the Drabek/Swindle years, that fans said WTF right away and were right

    https://theathletic.com/1867126/202...ree-agent-signings-in-houston-sports-history/

RHP Woody Williams — two years, $12.5 million on Nov. 24, 2006

Williams was so bad in 2007 — he had a 5.27 ERA and a 1.431 WHIP in 188 innings — that the Astros paid him to not pitch for them in 2008. They released him at the end of spring training, and he subsequently retired. Williams pitched more than 2,200 innings in a good career that spanned 15 seasons. But he was 40 when the Astros signed him. Because of the rules at the time, his deal also cost the team a second-round draft pick in 2007.

    YES

And while it was for much less money

It wasn’t much less considering the years

I'd be fine with being patient if the team were playing better but this has to stop. He can't be played. @Htown Stros idea is probably the best case scenario right now short of just dropping him. If Loperfido is called up and proves not to be ready, Let Singleton play most days and bring Hensley back up to come off the bench. Literally couldn't be any worse.

Infuriating but now I'm just numb and accepting the fact he's the worst Astros FA signing that I've ever witnessed. Drabek and Swindell sucked but were at least playable. Jose is walking around with a .256 OPS and his defense not only sucks, but it's lazy too. Dude had a 150-point drop in OPS last year trying to be tough by playing injured for 100 games.

Even more foolish is the fact Espada won't stop playing him despite having other options to fill his position.
