Whew! Giving up Cam isn't going to make you many friends around here. I'm really not interested in Garland or Mitchell, personally. They're both too small and I think that's ultimately the reason why the Cavs have such a low ceiling. I also think it was the biggest problem for Utah. I know FVV is only 6'0 but he's so strong that he can do things neither of those guys can defensively. I would rather gamble on Jalen or Cam to emerge than bet on either of those guys, however more proven they are. There are certainly players out there I am willing to trade one of our young guys for, but none of them are shorter than 6'4. Especially since I believe Amen is the point guard of the future for us.
Donovan Mitchell is also damn strong and should be a good defender, but he doesn't seem interested in playing much defense. But yeah, I agree neither of those guys is that appealing. I would actually rather have Desmond Bane than Donovan Mitchell if we're trading Jalen and/or Cam. I think he's a better defensive player and more willing to play off the ball. But he's probably not available, Memphis likely just runs it back next season. Maybe at the deadline if they're having problems?
Jalen Green has shown more defensive chops in his 3rd year than Donovan Mitchell has shown his entire career. There's a reason Mitchell and Lillard are constantly losing everywhere they go. I don't think Jalen Green is a better player than Mitchell and will likely never be, but both are as likely to lead you a title. Sengun is a better player today than Donovan Mitchell has ever been. Desmond Bane a million times over Mitchell, yes.
I don't disagree that we might get into a cap issue if we do not make some tough decisions, but I don't think that needs to be done now. Example: I believe the cost of trading Jalen now while we can and him blowing up is more costly than us pushing it to restricted free agency and someone offering him a max. The fact that we traded away guys like Tyty, Garuba, Josh, etc makes the roster maintenance a little easier (even though I think giving KMJ away for nothing was a bad move -- still not very consequential in the grand scheme on things). I would give it at the trade deadline at the earliest to make any major moves (outside of any obvious major moves that pop up).
I definitely agree that they're too small but if you only take one and have a decent sized guard like Jalen as the other I think you'd be ok. I like Cam and wouldn't give him up unless it was someone I really really liked and Garland fits that bill. I wouldn't trade Cam for Mitchell, Trae, Dejounte but I think Garland is a really good player who can be an amazing playmaker to unlock our whole time. Gotta give something to get something.
If you'd asked me a year and a half ago I would have been all over trying to acquire Garland, but now, idk. He has taken a step back this season after treading water last season. He might have already peaked as a player and may not even be as good as FVV.
Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks for Mitchell works on both sides and seems logical if the Cavs feel they are losing Mitchell in free agency. I have a sneaky suspicion this is what Udoka wants to happen.
I've always liked Mitchell, but man he sure gets bounced from the playoffs very easily and he's also had some very forgettable playoff series. Don't know if I trust him to be the guy coming to Houston. Although maybe the dynamic of Sengun/Mitchell would be pretty damn good, I don't know, don't trust him.
Udoka wants the worse defender who is also much older and has shown what is the best he will ever be? I seriously doubt that. Do you have a predisposed bias towards Green to want these stupid trades?

Are you sure about this? Green's best DRtg came this season at 115, Donovan's worst season is 111. This season Green had 2.9 DWS, Mitchell also had 2.9. This season Green had a DPBM of -0.5, Mitchell was at 1.2 Green had a career high in STL%/BLK% 1.2/1.0, but Mitchell was still higher 2.6/1.4 Jalen Green is also not a guy you can run a NBA offense through exclusively, Mitchell can be that guy. Now what you don't want to do if pair him with another small guard at the same time. Which is what Utah and Cleveland have been doing. Go get a big guard and let Mitchell play PG.
I think the Cavs trade Mitchell this offseason. Only question is can we outbid other teams for his services, and will he resign. It just makes too much sense. He’s going to opt out and he’s entering his final year. He’s never had a chance to go where he wants to go and it’s clear he’s not staying in Cleveland. Unlike others I think a Fred/Mitchell backcourt would be awesome. He’s averaged over 37% shooting from 3 his last couple seasons. He’d be a top target in my book.
Cleveland is a solid team, but they have a ceiling with two guards that aren't great at defense + wings that aren't great at spacing the floor. I imagine that they will be looking to make changes if they have another early exit, and given Donovan Mitchell is close to free agency, he feels very gettable. Offensively, Donovan gives us a dynamic scorer and playmaker that can attack from all levels of the floor. Sengun is a monster but our offense was middle of pack spamming PnR with him and FVV. We need more diversity. FVV is too small to regularly put pressure on the rim. Jabari is too limited as a driver, Amen as a dribbler and shooter, Cam and Tari as passers to be hubs for our offense. This team looked truly elite during Jalen's monster March, but the question as always is how regularly can you get even 80% of that from him. That's what Donovan gets us - consistently high level play at the 2-guard position. Defensively, Mitchell has the tools but is here and there with effort - we have both the pieces and the organizational focus to cover him / get him to buy in. FVV and Mitchell would be a small backcourt, but FVV is a ferocious, high impact defender that plays much bigger than his size. And we have a bevy of wings that cause chaos defensively - Tari, Jabari, Brooks, Amen - so we would not rely on him to cover the best swingmen on defense. Jalen, Jeff, Tate, and Landale are enough outgoing salary to get Donovan Mitchell. Sprinkle in BKN picks as needed, and here's what our rotation looks like afterwards: Sengun/Adams Jabari/Tari Brooks/Amen Mitchell/Cam FVV This is an extremely stout and well rounded team. Sengun, Donovan, and FVV give you plenty of offensive firepower in the halfcourt, and you still have athletes abound to push the pace. You can have 3/4 shooters and 3/4 strong defenders on the floor at all times. And given their playmaking chops, Amen and Donovan are plenty capable of handling backup PG duties. The Rockets may ultimately decide to hold their chips until another big piece (Giannis, Embiid, Booker) frees up, but this consolidation move has a lot of merits. As much as we love them, all six members of our young core may not be able to stay with the team long term. Get a guy like Donovan and you vault up to contender while many of your pieces are still on their rookie deals. See how they handle playoff pressure, and make a determination on who truly belongs in the core.
Mitchell = commitment to being “OK”. “Yeah, we made the playoffs.” “Yeah, maybe we won a playoff series.” If they did nothing (no moves), I believe they (the growing up kids) could do that. And we’re gonna give up assets for that?! To be a first round exit?
