Rumor: Carmelo Anthony gets into Brawl at Nightclub

    There is a rumor about Carmelo Anthony fighting in a nightclub. It sounds like there is probably a 95% chance that this really happened.

    So Joe Budden is telling this story because he's wondering if the publicist is telling the real deal. He saw Carmelo last night at Club Babalu. It was Swizz Beatz birthday party, Joe said it was definitely poppin - he kept saying that - with nuff celebrities doing the mingle and move thing. He mentioned that Carmelo Anthony and MTV VJ Lala were there together. If you didn't know they are a couple - then now you know. So there Carmelo and Lala are, all up in the VIP section having a good time, when this guy named Sugar Ray spots them from across the room. Sugar Ray is Lala's ex-fiance. The fact that he's now her ex is no surprise. I remember one day last year, she was hosting an MTV show and the guest mentioned her ring and her new engagement - she didn't look like she was overjoyed about the situation. .

    Sugar Ray and Lala had some words, it was supposed to be a friendly situation. Somewhere along the line things turned foul and Sugar Ray spit in Lala's face. Carmelo Anthony, who was at the club without bodyguards, got hood with it and started swinging. So these two are fighting, but Sugar Ray was with his Harlem buddies. They jumped in. Now it's just an all out brawl: tables are being kicked over, chairs being thrown. Joe Budden said the fight went from inside the club.. to the outside.

    He didn't say if Carmelo Anthony took a beating or if he delivered one. He was still on some allegedly happened ish about Sugar Ray spitting on Lala. The situation was validated when Carmelo and Lala called in to give their side of the story. I was in transit at the time, so I didn't hear what they had to say. I did hear Sugar Ray when he called. He said that his mother brought him up better than to be spitting in a chick's face.. but he did it. The situation got out of hand, he said. Then he apologized.. "If I did anything wrong." .

    Carmelo definitely earned a respect stripe for this one. Here he is taking on a posse for self. No bodyguards, except for the club bouncers who had to be trying to break it up, but Carmelo didn't let his chick stand there with spit dripping from her eye.. he stepped up and risked millions by virtue of being a famous.. and did what he had to do. Joe Budden tried to get a conversation started asking people what they would do if they were in Carmelo's place. As long as you are with that girl, whether it's serious or not, there is no way you can just stand there looking stupid. Imagine that story. .

    If Carmelo did get lumped up in the fight then he doesn't care who knows.. He'll be at HOT97 tomorrow morning for that interview. .

    ....I think that just proves Anthony is a spoiled kid who thinks extermely highly of himself. Also a bit stupid. Protecting your lady friend is pretty STANDARD but IMMEDiATELY starting a fight, and continues fighting aganist a group is pretty stupid and shows just how immature he is.

    Btw if this Sugar Ray isnt the pop artist then who is it? ... some background info on him?

    Sugar Ray is the band, Mark McGrath is the pretty-boy lead singer. Seriously doubt that dude would mix it up with Anthony...

    Yep, sounds pretty silly. Wonder if the League is going to suspend him any games for being involved in an off-court altercation.

    Remember when Sprewell broke his hand hitting some dude? Maybe, Carmelo can be so lucky when T-Mac takes it to him.

    OK, now you guys are reaching for ways to hate Melo. I can understand not liking him, but come on, suspension? For what? Defending his girlfriend? He was wrong, but most of us in the same situation would do the same thing.

    Seriously tho, if someone spits on your girl, you need to defend her if she likes it or not. That's man code. It's goes back to the neaderthals. Spit on my half monkey-human girl and I'll kick your ass. And wohever is your wingman, he better be goin with you.

    Exactly. Anyone with a girlfriend/wife, or anyone who's ever even had one can relate to Carmello. I'm not mad at him at all, he did the right thing.

    If someone EVER spit on my woman $hit would hit the fan.

    And if the spitter is bigger than you, and surrounded by his demented friends, you still have to challenge him (but you do a lot of loud threatening first and hope that your girl, the bouncers, ANYBODY -- will break it up before you get pummelled --- yeah! you six ex-con no-neck bikers better watch out -- i jwoulda killed you if these guys didn't hold me back...). You have to answer the bell...

    It's not like this is the Olympics, or something, where you can coast...

    sorry about the 'mello slam...it's been a long off-season

    Cool, it's hard to deny one's manly duties. But seriously, is LaLa really worth it? I mean, T. Banks, P.Anderson, P.Hilton, H. Klum, R. Romjin-Stamos, A. Jolie.... I could understand. But duty calls, I guess.

    i would do exactly the same in his situation, If somebody treats your girlfriend bad you act against it.
    I never fight, But the only way i wil ever get into a fight is if somebodys does something bad to my girlfriend.

    People are so quick to give NBA players negative labels. If he hadn't defended his date, I would have had a very different label for him...
