If we can keep pitching no hitters, one and two hitters then we have a solid chance to continue winning

Blanco is giving me 22 Javier vibes. He has a standard pitch that behaves totally different from other pitcher in the league. There is almost a 9 mph and 20 inch drop difference between his fastball and changeup. If they look the same until it gets to the plate, batters are screwed.

I guess Blanco is our new ace until further notice. I can dig it.

Maybe one game of finally doing their damn job will settle the pen down.

Blanco's changeup again had a team extremely off balance all night, and they were actually expecting it unlike Toronto.

I wonder if Caratini will catch Framber again tomorrow. If he does, I hope someone else besides Diaz will DH just to give the guy a day off.

Hopefully he’s the second coming of Mike Scott when he added the split finger fastball.

Thank goodness we got the win, first base is still a black hole and the offense hasn't clicked yet.................one thing about Fri and Sat was they just didn't seem to have much enthusiasm...................maybe it's just me or I am reading to much into it. Loperfido was playing 1st base yesterday for the Space Cowboys..........he couldn't do worse than what we have. Abreau/Singleton are an automatic out at this point

    its only 10 games, but

astros have 0 xbh and 0 rbis in 40 ABs from first base this year (JAbreu+Singleton)

Singleton has more ABs (13 vs 11) vs Dubon. Hell, Dubon even knocked in 2 runs in that early series and has a double

62 ABs for Alex + JAbreu == 1 RBI. mind boggling

Yeah, but the split finger was nasty in itself just like Javier's fastball. His changeup is only as good as how it looks compared to his fastball. If you know the changeup is coming then, hitters are going to hammer it.

Its a great pitch in terms of the late action he's able to get on it. Who knows why the Astros staff (or Blanco himself) recognized its potential... but THESE are the type of moves that deserve overblown credit/new threads/etc.... vs. every other knee-jerk internet GM suggestion regarding draft/trades/signings.

Especially in baseball... sometimes you have untapped potential just sitting on your roster. But then there's guys like Singleton who will have "untapped potential" written on his baseball reference page forever.... and he's still getting starts.

Not necessarily true. Thus far, I've seen it break down or in towards right-handers.... and somehow he was able to get it to break in towards left-handers too.

Its fairly unpredictable with that late action. Of course yes, he has the ability to throw a "bad" one that goes right down the middle... but hitters still swing through it because they're looking for something else.

Its not a pitch any pitcher can throw exclusively.... but the best changeups do have action beyond just the speed difference.
