https://247sports.com/article/baske...lv-arizona-florida-houston-gonzaga-195212386/ Here's an old article about his recruitment. It is interesting to see his thinking coming out.
I think that's exactly what he's thinking. In March Dedan Sr. posted a comment about what a great coach Sampson was. Having your son play for the same school where you played is cool but getting your son to the NBA takes precedence.
my understanding was his mom LOVED UH and Sampson....and his dad insisted he go to UNLV. Looks like Mom might get the last laugh.
Yeah, the mom strongly wanted him to go to UH. Not sure if his dad insisted, but he was an ex-UNLV player and that's their hometown university so I'm sure that there was a lot of pressure to go to UNLV. Hopefully, the rumors are true. What I like about him is that he can drive and finish. He's a good passer and he's not a bad shooter. As a freshman, he was already a better offensive player than Shead. He's be a really good get for them. If Roberts and Cryer come back as rumored they'd be a national contender again. That's without even considering any contributions from Mercy Miller, McCarty, Jefferson or McFarland.
He's really REALLY good. UNLV had a pretty good team this year and he was one of the biggest reasons why. That would be a huge loss for UNLV, but a massive win for UH.
I'm pretty sure that it is. My money is on him starting at PG for the Cougars next year. Big shoes to fill, but he has the potential to get it done.
Mom always gets the last laugh. Sampson knows where his bread gets buttered. The man never stops recruiting.
Exactly and because coach always puts players interest above the program he's perfect coach for someone wanting to play professionally. Coach has a track record established of taking good players and helping them become NBA ready.
We also have to take into account Dedan staying home played a part. But if staying home goes out the window after just a year, yeah UNLV's ability to keep higher caliber players isn't looking too good when they're not a high NIL program
This is an old pic during their visits but lets make it 3 out of the 4! I just realized Dedan reclassified a year early to play this past year at UNLV, but would have been coming with Mercy this coming year (the plan all along after Shead leaves). Pharaoh (right) is going to SDSU
Not sure if it was already mentioned in this thread, but Dedan Thomas is good friends with Lath. That may be Lath's main contribution next season.
Well in coaches interview this week, he was unwavering in his belief that Houston was going to have a good point guard next season. He clearly believed something was in the works. So maybe him and Mom have already been planning.
Next year's squad is like a ****in tank ready for someone to take the keys and drive. We will get an elite PG, the question is who.
