I’m pretty sure that poster gets off to praising head coaches, that the rest of us don’t like or agree with, during and after they leave.
Diaz has a hit every game this season except one. He has DH'd once. Guess which game he DH'd.... 2023 Stats 2024
And for our “ace”… does Framber hate/blame Diaz?? I don’t get why you wouldn’t have your starting catcher with all top rotation guys. Like maldy last year then Diaz got the Hunter browns.. give caratini the 4-5 starters.. (except that’s a wash since blanco will be using Diaz every single time now haha)
Really should be below Pena too at this point. As for Diaz catching, don’t really have an issue with not using him 5 out of 6 games with no off days. I’d rather not run Diaz into the ground to where he’s injured and/or struggling at the end of the year because of it. Especially given Caratini is a quality backup and Framber is pitching so outfield defense isn’t really a huge issue.
Honestly, Framber makes the most sense to have Caratini catch for him. You can get away with lesser OF defense using Yordan and Chas given Framber’s extreme GB rate (when he’s himself).
5 out of 6 games is 135 starts behind the plate over a full season and that is what we should get from Diaz, especially since he can’t hit a beachball as a DH. 4 out of 6 games is 108 games over a full season, which would be way too low. Diaz is young and he can handle it. We need him to be able to start 80% of games at C.
Yordan is the best overall LF in the game. The Astros don't get away with having him in the OF even if Javier is on the mound. The Astros are getting away with resting Alvarez at the DH as much as they do. As good as Meyers is defensively, odds are Caratini is better for the defense (i.e., catching is the most valuable defensive position not counting the pitcher), and Diaz is a better hitter than Meyers. Provided Abreu starts hitting, I'm guessing this is the best lineup for the Astros when a LHP isn't pitching.
I am old enough to remember when Pancakes roasted Houston Oilers for taking paternity leave for their first born child
It's probably more to do with rotating Caratini in so save Diaz's legs throughout the year. Makes sense for both catchers to eventually catch for every starter at some point throughout the year. I bet Diaz will catch about 110-115 games this season.
