Of course. The onr part of the Secret Service gets to bang the nude model, while the others get to babysit a senior citizen.
Been reading Bible and was surprised by Leviticus 20:10-12 10 “‘If a man commits adultery with another man’s wife—with the wife of his neighbor—both the adulterer and the adulteress are to be put to death. 11 “‘If a man has sexual relations with his father’s wife, he has dishonored his father. Both the man and the woman are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads. 12 “‘If a man has sexual relations with his daughter-in-law, both of them are to be put to death. What they have done is a perversion; their blood will be on their own heads. Deuteronomy 22:22-24 22 If a man is found sleeping with another man’s wife, both the man who slept with her and the woman must die. You must purge the evil from Israel. 23 If a man happens to meet in a town a virgin pledged to be married and he sleeps with her, 24 you shall take both of them to the gate of that town and stone them to death—the young woman because she was in a town and did not scream for help, and the man because he violated another man’s wife. You must purge the evil from among you. That must be a printing error, no?
There's a lot of violence and bloodshed in the Bible including justifications for mass killings. Ezekial 35:4 "I will lay waste your cities And you will become a desolation. Then you will know that I am the Lord." Numbers 21:2" So Israel made a vow to the Lord and said, “If You will indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.” The Lord heard the voice of Israel and delivered up the Canaanites; then they utterly destroyed them and their cities. Thus the name of the place was called Hormah." Isaiah 6:11 "Then I said, “Lord, how long?” And He answered, “Until cities are devastated and without inhabitant, Houses are without people And the land is utterly desolate," Genesis 18:24 "Suppose there are fifty righteous within the city; will You indeed sweep it away and not spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous who are in it?" Deuteronomy 3:6 "We utterly destroyed them, as we did to Sihon king of Heshbon, utterly destroying the men, women and children of every city." A lot of people criticize Islam for being founded by a military leader and justifying a lot of violence in his name yet forget that the early Israelites were also militarized tribal people and many of the early prophets like Joshua were also military leaders who fought many battles with other tribes and peoples in the region.
I don't think so, but the translation is awkward as hell with prepositional phrase placement. "If a man happens to meet a virgin in a town (versus in the countryside), and the virgin is pledged to be married, and he sleeps with her..." If you meet her in the sticks though, dude, by all means! In my not humble opinion, the Bible is full of terrible writing, but oh well. Maybe a chatbot can fix it up a little. We'll have the King James version, the Trump version, and the GPT version soon enough, I guess.
One poster here is an open bigot against Islam. As I have said in the bigotry tweets thread against Islam, it's as easy to be a bigot toward Islam as it is toward Judaism and Christianity. There are plenty of historical events and textual materials to use.
The Old Testament was an oral tradition that was written into ancient Hebrew. By the time of the Council of Nicaea the various books of the Bible had been written in and translated in various languages. What we read in English now has gone through multiple translations and as you note there are multiple English translations.
In many ways, translating ancient Hebrew is like translating an alien language. There's nobody around anymore to explain exactly what a certain word means in context. Scholars can come to conclusions about words like "Sexual Relations" and "Death". However the translations get tricky with the pronouns and adverbs, or references to geographical locations that no longer exist, etc. The issue with the church (especially the Evangelical Church and the Hard Liner Catholics) is the inability to accept contradiction, and lack of clarity in the biblical text. When they preach from the Bible, especially in the Evangelical sermons, they are almost always injecting their own personal worldview on the text instead of letting the text be what it is, and following principled guidelines for the essentials (thou shall not kill, etc.). When this happens over time, it allows for space and acceptance of sub groups that are personality/cult driven instead of following principled universal truths. The most important thing we can do here in the US to protect both Religion and the Government will be deeper constitutional level laws that further separate church and state. Cults are going to still happen yes, but it is paramount that a cult led messianic figure never step foot in the White House. We could literally all die. A cult leader who uses the Bible almost always turns the concept of Jesus on its head and rather than saying "Jesus died for your sins" they say "You need to die on behalf of the cult leader." Trump doesn't explicitly say "Go die for MAGA" but he gets pretty damn close to that line already, and he doesn't even have the amount of power that he could very well have in 12 months that he's never had before.
Cherry picking quotes out of the Old Testament is a tell tale sign of a fake Christian, or an atheist. Obama did it as well. The New Testament is the new covenant and really the centerpiece for the morale code of believers. So you exposed yourself here. Very thin, superficial knowledge of the Bible.
First, Truth Social stocks tanked yesterday and now this today, he is winning so much. Trump Sues Truth Social Company Co-Founders to Zero Them Out https://finance.yahoo.com/news/trump-sues-co-founders-truth-190328312.html?
It's been so obvious for a long time now that Trump's Mission Objective is to say the most outlandish garbage he can to rile up his supporters. Honesty has nothing to do with it. He'll say anything. It's his playbook. It's all he ever does. But, when he goes home at night and lays his head down on his pillow thinking about his day, he knows he is completely full of it and putting on a show.
