From what I've read, the original trilogy will never see the light of day because Lucas dislikes the original versions so much, and he sees the SE versions as the 'true vision' of Star Wars.

Not that I'm advocating it, but you can find copies of the OT trilogy on DVD at eBay. For you, it would likely be entirely legal since they were in all probability burned from the laserdiscs you already own.

Did anyone see the Star Wars special on A&E last night??

Funny how Lucas basically told the SAG and Fox to shove it and did his own thing anyway.

It cheapen the whole movie when your watching a CLASSIC and some stupid out of place CGI effect jumps out and punches you right in the mouth.

Wouldn't a more appropriate comparison be to say that this is like Ozzy going in and re-doing all that stuff?

I think the movies suck anyway, so I like seeing a bunch of Star Wars freaks getting their panties in a wad. :)

Obviously, it's because he has a vision as to how he always wanted the movies to be that never materialized when the original movies were made. Star Wars is his vision. Only he knows how he wanted it to play out. If he wants to go back and dress them up to match the scenes to what he originally had intended, then he obviously has the power and capacity to do so. He obviously is more concerned with getting the scene to be how he wants it versus the impact of adding new effects to an older movie. I am glad he's made all these changes. It gives new life to the movies. I don't think he really cares what everyone else thinks about the changes. His whole career has been him making movies to where he can do what he wants...not what everyone else thinks he should do. This applies to not only studio executives but fans as well.

I look forward to checking out the new changes and this box set.

Considering Sharon has completely controlled Ozzy's career from the day she signed him, it's a pretty accurate comparison.

That's true, but he should offer both. He does owe it to the fans who helped made star wars what it is. I would like to own the original movies that I loved and grew up with. The ones that I saw multiple times in the theater, and bought tons of merchandise of.

anyone catch the A&E special on Star Wars? I think it's one of the 2 hour behind the scenes things that's on the new DVD's.

It was very awesome, they should some of the early casting calls with different folks reading for Luke and Han, including a young Kurt Russell, Terri Nunn and a few others... wild stuff. Tons of behind the scenes things. WAY COOL.

    Yeah I saw that.

Without a doubt, Kurt Russell would have ruined Star Wars.

Also, I like the part where they talked about Darth Vader and C3P0's original voices before they decided to change it. Hilarious!

The only good movie he ever did was Tombstone and he almost fudged that up too.

Remind me to smack you around next time we meet up for a beer. :)

Dark Blue was an extremely underrated movie I thought. He did some good comedies I thought in the 80s, as well. A lot of his stuff has been very cheesy, but intentionally so. I think he'd have fit the Han Solo character perfectly.

I thought the part of C3PO driving the landspeeder with Luke grabbing something from the back was funny as hell.

I saw the A&E special, too... the part I thought was the most interesting was that the entire cast and crew pretty much thought they were working on a huge piece of crap while they made "A New Hope." The first edit of the film was so crappy that they had to bump the release back from Christmas to summer in order to redo the entire thing. Then when it opened and they saw the finished product, they were like "Holy $#it!"

Yea...I liked him in "Overboard". LOL.

I don't think any one cast member being swapped out would have made much difference because we would have never known anyone else in the role. So, to say Harrison Ford is the best for the Han Solo part is a blind comment. The fact is we could be saying the same thing about Kurt Russell if he got the part. Same goes for any of those other roles. It's the story and the script which made the characters. Obviously, having a great chemistry with the key members of the cast is important but that chemistry could have developed with different actors as well.

Star Wars still would have been a huge success unless it was like Jean Claude Van Damme as Han Solo, Neil Patrick Harris as Luke Skywalker, and Jennifer Aniston as Princess Lea. Then, the movie might have bombed. LOL.

Oh, I know you didn't just talk **** about Overboard. That and The Best of Times are top-notch flicks.

OK, I actually love Overboard, but The Best of Times is pretty horrible.
