Why didn't Houston Nutt show the Horns down at the end of the game? Can someone help me with this one? **** Arkansas and them cheering when Vince went down.
WOW... I still haven't started breathing yet... We won that game because of the early blown snap/safety and Jones coughing up the ball... otherwise it was a completely even match... that was waaaay to close for comfort... Arkansas totally had it in the bad. I was about to need something, alot of of something, to drink.
2 1/2 minutes left is not in the bag. Assuming Jones was tackled, UT wouldve called a timeout and had 1 left. Young was inconsistent but did manage to hit several passes to the TE. Also, Arkansas wouldve played a different defense once UT got the ball back. Rather than having 8 in the box, they wouldve played a zone or prevent to stop a big play and hide their young secondary. When you spread out your defense for a final stop, it leaves big gaps in the open field which is fodder for a running QB. Games always turn on a few plays here and there. If Arkansas drove down the field and kicked a game winning FG, they wouldve been "lucky" Young and Benson did not stay in bounds.
i forgot to add huff dropping those 2 interception was terrible also. it's a nice joke about him not catching it when he knows he can't return it for a TD (4 career INT, all returned for a touchdown) but in games like this it isn't funny. both of his misses were immediately followed by FG's. oh and i forgot to add just how stupid greg davis is again. benson should've seen the ball on essentially every first down of the second half. he was getting 4 or 5 every time, you don't go away from that. we've got a bye week and then essentially two more bye weeks coming up with i believe rice and baylor on tap, there's no need to worry about benson getting tired. just keep going to him. vince didn't make the greatest of passes that's for sure but he had 2 TD's (one on an incredible athletic play that very few qb's in D1 can make) and no picks and no fumbles so he certainly didn't hurt us. if he and the receivers knew what routes they were running he could've been even better. i still can't believe i had to sweat out a drive to the 10, and then a hail mary to pull off a two point win. the game was playing out so close to my nightmare close game loss scenario it was eerie. it was going exactly the way i thought it would. and them matt jones, our tormentor supreme, makes the boneheaded play of his career and gives us the game. derrick johnson is still very awesome. greg davis is an idiot.
Hah...like UT fans wouldn't cheer if, oh, say Jason White were to go down during their game. Or any Aggie during the UT/A&M game.
I've been to over 30 UT home games and I've never heard the fans cheer or the band start playing when an opposing player is down. We have class like that. Too bad UA doesn't.
Ok fair enough we don't know what would have happened in the remaining time. It would have been less than 2 1/2 minutes, but whatever. It certainly would have been an uphill battle which would have required marching around 50 yards downfield to try to get into fg range.
What's with the *Rice Owls* fan talking smack about college football? College baseball, academics, wacky bands, star trek knowledge, masturbating contests? Yes, feel free let the Owl Pride flow. As you were...
Why do embarrassing football games quickly get turned into the "we have class, your team doesn't" arguments? Who really cares? Both sides in any game are going to have a handful of troublemakers, that's a given. And it's certainly not a certainty that the UA fans were cheering because Young was hurt. They could have been cheering due to the result of the play.
Where am I talking smack? I watched the game and am providing my comments. I thought that Arkansas gave this game away. That is not talking smack.
You also have to remember that unlike the NFL, the clock automatically stops after every 1st down. This means that although not necessarily an ideal strategy, you can run it a few times on short yardage situations. 1 timout and 2 minutes for a FG is an eternity in college football. The real issue was if UT could make the 1st downs.
Should they really be talking that much smack about college baseball? To fans of a team that advanced further than they did? texxx, would you even be here if the score were something more like 52-7? Please tell me you're not talking smack...
I certainly would never do that. And every game I've been to, whenever any player goes down, regardless of the team, the student section I'm in immediately goes silent and the Horns go up in the air. (And no, those aren't Horns to taunt or rub it in the other teams face. )
We pulled it off a couple of times amazingly last year, against KState and Tech I believe it was, but I certainly wouldn't want to have gone through that again, I have faith in the team, but it's never an easy thing for any team to get all the way down the field in 2 minutes knowing you won't get the ball back. Oh and In all honestly, I felt I heard a bit of an uproar of cheers from the crowd once it was clear Young was having trouble getting up.
