I guess this is maybe why Ohtani has always been so private. Also, I don’t know why some are considering him to be too nerdy for sports gambling (as if that even makes sense). Because he’s Asian? lol. Ohtani doesn’t look or act like a nerd to me.
Well we know 100% that the second story is made up. At least I have 100% come to that conclusion. Perhaps someone let Ohtani know that even wiring the money directly to the bookie was illegal so there needs to be an even more elaborate cover story that distances him more from the act. I am 50/50 on whether the interpreter is acting as the fall guy and it was Ohtanis debt or whether Ohtani paid the bookie directly for his interpreters debt. Either of which is illegal.

The cover up story was so bad that it was hilarious. I think the interpreter may have told the truth the first time - Ohtani paid his gambling debt but then his lawyers told him it was actually a crime to pay a bookie running an illegal gambling ring hence the reversal. if this is now under federal investigation the truth will come out.
I hope he's innocent for the good of the game...but at the same time if it fcks over the Dodgers, all the better.
