McCaffrey was 25 when the niners traded for him, I’d have infinitely more faith in a 25 year old with injuries that were not connected to each other to be healthy than a 30 year old DT who’s injuries are directly related to each other, and much more significant than anything McCaffrey dealt with
What holes did SF have prior to McCaffery? None. They thought they had their QB in Purdy. They just needed an RB to get them over the hump. The Texans need a DT, S, CB, WR. They missed on an oft-injured DT and a RB who was never coming here. Barkley got a 5 million dollar raise, gets to play for his hometown team, plays his old team twice a year. Do you really think the Texans paying 16 million a year would have made a difference?
Allen has missed 17 games since 2017. He was injured the last 4 games last year, but he would have played had Herbert not been placed on IR. He still had over 1200 yards and 7 touchdowns. Armstead missed 13 in the last 2. Armstead has has 23 tackles and 5 sacks total in the last 2 years. Yes he is good for the terrible DT free agent class, but there is no way in hell he is worth 51 million over 3 years. Also, you do not know what the Texans offered. For all we know the Texans could have offered 16 million the Jags offered 17 and Armstead said "I like Florida. No reason to go back and tell the Texans."
That's not the point. The point is would you have traded for a RB with the numerous amount of injuries McCaffrey had to the point in his career AND gave up that many picks?
This was a very good DT Free agent class; Jones, Madibuike, Armstead all were members of SB contenders. The number of yrs and total amount of the contract doesn't matter, its the guaranteed money. I don't know what the Texans offered but if they were willing to do a player swap and we knew his contract was $14M per yr, that means there was a difference of only $3M. So, the Texans were not willing to pay an additional $3M to complete the deal.
Someone speaking some sense. Some of the people here are just miserable sobs. There are consequences for bad contracts like these. Nick, imo, has been excellent getting value in FA. Just a bunch of FF gms here
Armstead I agree with you. I like Allen as much as the next guy but giving up draft capital, signing him to an extension and getting an older, more expensive, injury prone guy with a deep draft class coming up; it’s just not right in my eyes. I get having a proven talent like him here vs a rookie but he wanted more than the chargers wanted to give him and with the new extension, would have wanted more money
As Chiefs fans love to say, they are 7-0 in the playoffs without 'Reke. Brett Veach might be the best GM in the NFL.
@hlmbasketball Funny Purdy was mentioned, a guy that was picked #262 in the 7th round beat out Trey Lance who was picked #3 in the first round the previous season. Not every starter is picked first round. We may have our DT, CB, or outside linebacker (beating out To'To'o ) in this draft
Hlmbasketball, keep this up and you’re going to make a run at WORST poster on this board. I didn’t think anyone could catch cmoak, but you’re giving him a run for his money. JUST STAHHHHHHPP!
Who are you? Have never once spoke with you, keep my name out of this HLM has always been one of the worst posters on this board.
Madibuike was tagged. He was not a free agent. Again with Armstead. You have no idea what the Texans offered. They may have matched Jacksonville. Hell they may have exceeded Jacksonville. You cannot force a Free Agent to take your money. At 17 million he is an overpay. There are 30 other teams besides Houston and Jacksonville. No other team besides Jacksonville stepped up and spent 17 million on him. You spend that extra 3 million and you lose another contributor. You just want the Texans to spend money on a NAME. Armstead didn't contribute too much because he missed the last 5 games of the regular season. The 49ers were 3-2. The last game they lost by 1 point and mostly sat their starters. If they had started Purdy they would have been 4-1 WITHOUT Armstead. Then there is this. "Armstead, 30, said he hopes he can return in time for the start of training camp this summer."
Look at his profile. He's got 6 posts. It's someone's troll account. Don't waste your time. You'd think people would have better things to do on their weekend. Guess not
So I was listening to TexansCap last night. He said most teams have it built in to the contract that the team can restructure at will as long as there is no money or void years added. The pay structure doesn't change at all. No extra upfront money or anything. Players might be against a restructure that includes void years, etc.
I would do the McCaffrey trade 100 times before overpaying an injured 30 year old DT $3M(whose current contract was overpaying him). McCaffrey and Armstead is not an apples to apples comparison, especially with Armstead now saying he might not be ready for training camp
