I like Seldon. That actor plays charisma with vulnerability to not make it seem like he's pulling answers out of his butt (which he usually is through exposition) The other two are woefully written. I don't mind Gail though I didn't know that her purpose was other than to prop up Hardin. Hardin was too annoying. They elevated her so much by word of mouth but I never saw her as a prodigy until what the bookend of this season. I guess if they explained the techno babble time cube through her and ran with that, I wouldn't see her in a bad light who stretched episodes
The feel and storyline of the books is largely different. The closest example I can think of is how different the Verhoven Starship Troopers is from the Heinlein book. In that case Verhoven didn’t like the book and wanted to make a movie mocking the fascist overtones of it. I’m not sure if that’s what Goyer feels about Asimov but he’s greatly altered not just the story but the message of the books.
I've watched the entirety of season 2. I don't really care what they call the series but season 2 was some damn good TV, a huge step up from season 1. I would not necessarily recommend Foundation strictly on the strength of season 1 but season 2 was a load of fun (after episode 1).
After finishing the season, as with season 1, Lee Pace's scenes were always the best. The Empire subplot is just better than Gail/Hari/Salvor.
