Last time I laughed at a rival's injury (Edwin Diaz with the Mets), Altuve went down a few days later. I'll be classy this time and hope for the best for Cole.
Early Tuesday, I heard the Texas Rangers might be close to acquiring Chicago White Sox right-hander Dylan Cease. The tip turned out not to be true, at least at that moment, but two sources briefed on the talks confirmed the teams engaged in recent discussions. The Dallas Morning News reported that White Sox scouts have “descended in droves” upon Rangers camp this week. Multiple members of the White Sox’s front office have scouted the San Diego Padres in similar fashion, sources said. The question for the Rangers is whether they would be willing to meet the White Sox’s desired return, which according to sources is in the range of these three players, if not them specifically: utility man Ezequiel Durán and pitching prospects Brock Porter and Jack Leiter. The White Sox, meanwhile, are engaged on free-agent righty Michael Lorenzen, a potential replacement for Cease, according to a source. Lorenzen could be an option for the Yankees as well.
Yup... also if Houston ends up needing another starter, Brown said it would be a trade closer to the deadline. With Burnes and Cease traded already, who's left? Bieber? Severino if he bounces back? Both don't excite me as before. Anyone else? I guess if Montgomery or Snell is forced to take a 1 year deal or if they sign a short term deal with opt outs and if all signs points to them opting out, possibly them. What sucks is there will be multiple teams after a starter at the deadline but now less available so it'll be harder to acquire or might cost more.
I personally have no clue regarding prospects but I've seen people say the return was garbage. Any idea what the equivalent would be if a package like that came from Houston? Surprised no one matched? Also Thorpe the guy who was part of the Soto trade?
Thorpe and Iriarte are both Fangraphs top 100 prospects and Zavala is just outside the Top 100 on MLB. In my opinion, Houston does not have the prospects to compare. I think it is a good return, but not a great one. I think I would be slightly disappointed if that was what Valdez brought back
My guess: Jacob Melton Luis Baez Spencer Arrighetti Seth Martinez It’s not a great return for the best available trade chip on the market.
