I say keep him. I stayed late at a game last season and asked him for his autograph...I think he was suprised that someone knew his name and gladly obliged.. a little kid next to me wanted an autograph, so I handed him mine. Let's hope he turns out to be the 3 we all hoped for. Sometimes it just takes a little time, plus, he's already got the build to compete in the league.
In that case, no extension would be my vote. Will he really play so well that a team will offer more than $2.3 million? I doubt it.
Hmmmm... I didn't intend to, but this poll is turning into a clash of the two most inexplicable and irrational trends of the clutchfans bbs: the high-school-like crush on Nachbar vs. the deep and profound concern for Leslie's cash.
I do not have a "high-school-like crush" on Boki, but he has shown me flashes of what I think could be some game. Last year, despite a near total lack of playing time, Boki showed that he CAN play defense, he takes charges, gets steals, and even blocks shots. He is not afraid to mix it up with the big boys and in the playoffs, he was a very solid performer. For 2.3m, you have to pick up his option just to keep him in the fold for one more year to see if he can consistently play the way he has in limited minutes.
Please -Please --Please This team has spent far more on less talent before. Look at Weatherspoon, Charlie Ward, Glen Rice, and Matt Maloney.. The latest pending financial bust - Motumbo... sign Boki...
i root for boki but if i was too look it at it objectively and as a non-rockets fan i'd probably say no. he hasn't really done much to date. he has shown a few glimpses but in general he hasn't done much to impressive. i really want him to succeed because he seems like a nice guy and i like to root for the underdog, but what has he done? going at karla was nice though.
Might make sense to wait until October 31 on the off-chance he mutates into dope-smoking, practice-skipping thug and discharges a firearm in the general direction of a female visitor at his house.
At least Eddie Griffin contributed something on the basketball court, Nachbar as of right now is closer to Dan Langhi than Eddie Griffin.
I think the Bokinator is rather handsome, esp. with the new haircut. p (decending to level of discourse...)
I can see Nachbar getting a shot at 10-14 mins per game at SF. His style is a much better fit with the current Rox line-up and I think he's making the effort to improve his game. That being said - I don't know if that's enough time to give him a chance at a break out year and Rox may be willing to forgo the extension and sign him at the market rate after the season. We'll see.
Of course you pick up his option. He's a tall-ish 3, can take it to the rack, can shoot the 3 (needs to get more consistent though), and, what's more, he's Yao's best friend on the team. Keep the Shanghai Shake (er, or would that be the "Shanghai Stomp"?) in Houston. So keep Boki in Houston. The kid'll just keep getting better.
