Because he has been the worst starter, we already have players on the team that can slide into his spot if he were traded, he has a decent salary, and may still hold value as a recent #2 overall pick. He’s the easiest person on the team to structure a trade around and provides a lot of trade possibilities. Once someone has posted “Jeff Green for a future protected 2nd round pick”, there is never a reason to post another Jeff Green trade.
You gotta trade value to get value. A team like the Rockets is likely to value a potential lottery ticket (i.e., may still hold value as a recent #2 pick that hasn't shown that he can translate skills to be effective consistently on an NBA court) like Jalen Green the most. The only trades that really make sense are the ones with Jalen Green are the ones in which his salary is needed with draft capital for a star/near-star going to a team that is going from trying to compete to rebuild or the trades of lottery tickets of guys with upside hoping a change of scenery makes a difference. Most proposed Jalen trades are made because he's disappointed a poster, and the poster just wants him off the team because he's the worst starter. Trades are typically made to get something of value (even if it is just cap space) and not because the GM has gotten his panties in a twist because someone has underperformed. The Rockets would be better if they had players that could easily slide into his spot. I think Amen could slide to his spot for 30 mpg, but then you have a gap left to fill Amen's 25 mpg. Holiday is fine with limited usage (more than fine in my opinion), but I think he'd be worse than Green if asked to play the kind of role that Green plays.
Trayce Jackson-Davis This guy made an impression on me last night High Energy - good defensive timing (I see he is under contract until 2026) We need to find a way to pry him away from Golden State Height: 6′ 9″ Weight: 245 lbs Need someone like this .. . maybe with 3~5 more inches of height Rocket River
To be fair Dillion Brooks has the worst PER amongst the starters and has even bigger tradable salary. Not in a rush to trade away Green. He shown some nice glimpses this season.
That’s true, but PER doesn’t really reflect defense well, which is Brooks’ strong suit. Adding him to this team with Ime’s coaching has facilitated a massive turnaround in defense. Brooks has limited value in a trade, while Green still has the promise of untapped potential. So, while a lot of fans are down on Green, he still has the potential to return greater value.
Incredibly skilled and smart player. I’m an IU guy and watched a ton of him. I was worried he would struggle because he has no outside game at all. That said, he is a good defender, rebounder, exceptional passer and does the little things to help a team win. Not sure how the Warriors view him but I would love to have him on the Rockets.
If Green has potential great value in a trade, he has great value to the Rockets. I just can't see playoff teams wanting him. Detroit, Washington, Spurs, Trail Blazers, and Raptors are out as they need outside shooting. Grizzlies probably out as they have shooting issues already and probably think they are back to contending with better health next season. Charlotte has Miller and Ball. They are out. Basically, if the Bulls, Hawks, and/or Nets decide to go full rebuild, those are the options for Green unless it is a trade of Green for someone like Bouknight (lateral move).
I don’t really disagree with any of that. I was just trying to answer the question of why so many trade proposals involve Jalen from my own perspective. I’m sure the poster was really just complaining about his inclusion more than actually wondering why.
I actually think Charlotte makes a lot of sense. Jalen could slot in nicely between Ball and Miller and would give them the opportunity to market a young, exciting core of Ball/Green/Miller/Williams/'24 FRP. I've proposed elsewhere Jalen to Charlotte for Grant Williams, Nick Richards and swap rights to their '25 frp (we swap okc's pick with them most likely). Would need some fillers (Tate?) but I think that's a great deal for them and the Rockets get a two way 3/4 with a history with Ime and a young, athletic 5 along with a better pick in '25.
But only at about $2m per year. While he’s probably not a direct replacement for either, the likelihood that GSW will be parting with both Wiggins and Thompson (largely for cap reasons) means he is probably going to be a necessary piece for them.
I thought Dillion and Jabari were playing worse. However, I just don't want to be trading for the sake of trading. I think if we improved our bench this yr and maybe add another big to the frontline, we can be a playoff team Honestly, I would like to get a 6'10 or taller PF and put Jabari at the SF, where I think he will flourish more.
Part of my thinking when I look at the trades is if you traded Sengun, you are without a starting center. If you trade Jabari, there goes all of your length. You could trade Jalen for a 6’10 PF like you said and move Jabari to SF and Brooks to SG where his defense and 3pt are vast improvements over Jalen (or start Cam). Same principle if you were to trade Jalen for a SF. You use Jalen to bring in an improved player at one of the other positions and move Brooks or Cam into the SG spot. There’s just a lot more flexibility moving Jalen than there would be moving Jabari, and I think Brooks is more valuable to the team overall than what you are likely to get in a trade.
Ugh... I like TJD, but we have Adams already for next year to backup Alpy. I would rather a longer bouncier type in the 2nd round or undrafted. Ariel Hukporti and Lual-A cuil are guys we could look at in Summer League for that 3rd string C (assuming Anderson is moved!)

Rockets: Anfernee Simons Portland: Tate, a player from 3rd team, Bkn 1st and additional 2nd rounders from 3rd team depending on which players Portland is getting back. 3rd Team: Jalen Green Simons would be great additional to this Rockets team...consistent shooter, decent passer and on a good contract. Portland already has a ball dominate guard in Henderson. Not sure who the third team would be...Raptor, Wizards, Hornets?
I know the definition... That is why I chose the word. I'm not ready to give up on Green and assets for a slight upgrade. Especially considering assets are already depleted from Westbrook trade and now Adams/KPJ deals. I hope & trust that Green is trending the right direction under a real coaching staff and the right basketball culture.
Jalen Green for a bag of chips and a warm beer ..... I just want him gone before he tricks Stone into believing he is worth a rookie max extension .... Ugh. Wasted Cap Space.
