We’re kind of long in the tooth in the backfield and signing McKinny would make us younger. BUT in two years we’re gonna have to resign Stingley to something like $20-$25 mill per yr. Xavier is gonna want something like $15 mill per so we talking about two DB getting something like $40 mill going into CJ and WAjr’s contract year. Not liking that. So I’m digging signing Simmons to a two year deal. Like we did with Nelson. Dude is exactly what we need and even at 30yrs he’s a significant upgrade over Pitre who is dog poo in coverage and at tackling which Simmons excels at. My only concern is he’s missed like 7 games the last two years.
Next season's schedule is going to be brutal. This is not a time to be conservative and roll back the same peeps as last year. We need more talented players...especially skilled players for red zone. Need major upgrade at RB who is skilled enough and can get you into the end zone, and finish games by moving the chain when OL breaks down. Need guys at the interior dline that can push and pressure the QB to help the edges and 2ndary. Need safeties that can help cover downfield (hopefully Pitre gets back to being good). For the love of all that's good...LBs that can tackle.
the entire list of safeties. You'll be able to get a very good one for $10 million one that's willing to play "dollar" defense.
Devin Singletary plus Henry would be tremendous. Wish there was a better pass catching situation there but I'd be fine with that. Most important is that they have enough money to upgrade the rest of the roster. Would love for the defensive line to be a disruptive force.
If they re-sign Singletary, they better damn well get another RB that has the skills to beat a guy into the end zone or get that short 4-5 yds to move the chain. Pollard or Henry. So many safeties...which of them can cover downfield and not get bamboozled by receivers? -.-
I was thinking that Singletary and Swift would make a pretty good RB combination. I don't know how well Swift blocks or catches out of the backfield, but he is shifty and quick. Looks like Barkley's camp is throwing around the I'm interested in........... rumors to jack that price up. I want him but not at the expense of getting rid of Singletary.
I was on board with the Christian Wilkins train but some of the locals and pundits brought up very good points. 1) DT who can pass rush and stop run are at a premium. So why would The Fins just let him walk? Do they know something? If I’m Demeco I’m calling Mike McD and getting the deets. (they are part of the Shanahan tree so Im sure they’ll be real). 2) big money 2nd contracts for DL that hit FA more often than not are usually busts/albatross. Ie Albert Haynesworth and Suh. I’d rather go with plan B than get into a bidding war tbh.
