It's been quiet for quite a while now. And Pre-Season will start just one month from now. Any info on whether or not Calvin will be coming back to commentate? or how he is doing with his trail?
The Chron stated a couple months back that his trial date wasn't until October. He won't do any work for the Rockets until that has been completed one way or the other.
What is CM's 'status' with the Rox? Is he on leave (unpaid) or leave (paid)? Does he retain his position as color commentator if (when) he is exonerated? In short, what is Rox' management position on CM, public and private (if known)?
I agree with you. Something about this whole issue seems a bit weird. Even with exoneration, I don't know that his reputation will improve. That will take some serious pr work.
I doubt, regardless of what the facts may be, that the PR maven who could repair and restore CM's rep has not yet been born.
I guess its just a dif way to do things.. but I wonder if we had . .say umm Kobe on our team would we be making him sit out until the trail was taken care of
so quick to judge.. I do have choice words, but I'll keep them to myself. I know him personally and I've said before and will say as many times that I have to.....his name will be cleared from all actuations. The daughters that are behind this are no good whores looking for money.
I agree, keeping ones choice words to one's self is often smart. But thank you for calling alleged victims of incestual sexual abuse "no-good whores," that was nice.
Meanwhile, Marv Albert was still on the air last year, wearing women's underwear and biting chunks out of hookers. I'd like to see him and Shaq in a steel cage death match.
Lol. I'm not making any assumptions about his guilt. I hope he's innocent (for the sakes of multiple people). But, you would admit, wouldn't you, that it would be bad PR to have someone with such a record (if he were to get it) on your payroll? And, also that it would be embarrassing to have an employee on the air while his trial for child abuse was being reported on in the news? I'm just saying they're cutting ties to protect their own reputation. In addition to the stakes involved between Murphy and Bryant, that Murphy has to talk in his job makes it somewhat different. Bryant can just shut up and play while Murphy wouldn't have that luxury.
I think that it's also his decision to stay out until he takes care of stuff. You know things like that are very distracting, and I don't think he would be mentally and emotionally ready to do the job. Every time I see him on TV he's crying and very emotional. I hope everything will work out for him, and I hope he's still getting paid, because he deserves every penny. He's done so much for the rockets organization, and I think when things settle down, he'll be back as usual.
Is there not a law that says you can't, as an organization, punish someone for being only CHARGED with a crime? and if theres not, dont you think there should be?
Calvin asked for leave and was granted it. He didn't put the organization in the position of having to make a choice.
No. There is no such law. Your ability as an employer to penalize someone for trouble with the law may be limited by a collective bargaining agreement or an employment contract. But absent that, an employer has the ability to fire someone that is charged with a crime. Such action may not always be morally right, but nevertheless is legal.
To add a little sanity... Calvin chose to take a leave of absence when this happened. No doubt it was mutual while he cleared up his personal stuff. Neither the team nor Calvin would benefit from his being in the public eye during a trial for something like this. He knew it would be a distraction to the team and that is the last thing he wants. And, by the way, "rapist" and "no good whores", seriously? Geez.
