Hell yeah bro. All the little John Galt's would just be lining up to send their millions to the military industrial complex fund. While the pay check to pay check peons can see something tangible for all of their hard work!!

I think there are still Conservatives who reject traits you wrote and stand for self agency, going against your history and doubts passed upon to you, operating on conviction/sacrifice, and work through private enterprise to enact change.

I blame Con shills like Limbaugh or Fox News that corrupted that ideal into blind and lustful worship for corporations and personal net worth. Their most famous retort is "criticizing/shaming people for their success." It's sick and inherently narcissistic.

There are positive traits in both sides that inherently get washed away in our digital zeitgeist that makes everyone way too angry at boogiemen.

And once those boogeymen sound a little like your neighbor, watch the **** out.

I don't disagree, but it's exactly those types who are branded as RINOs, or blackballed by the MAGAs and Trump. It's my way or the highway with him, from 4 star Generals to people he once praised. He wants yes men. He wants loyalty to him first, before country. He's proposing ideas now far different than last election. It's leaning towards dictatorship, with him as the man with power to do what the hell he wants whenever he wants. He is brainwashing followers with lie after lie after lie. He's spreading more propaganda than ever, and has his own right wing media and social networks spreading his BS. All other news is Fake News to those loyal to Trump.

As for non-MAGA Republicans and Democrats, Trump would do anything he could to censor, impeach, or remove them from office if he gets more MAGAs in position of power majority. You are the enemy if you go against Trump in his world. Look how he talks about everyone who worked along his side who bravely told the truth about the coup planning and insurrection. They are the enemy in his twisted psychopathic brain. Never underestimate a psychopath with a cult following in positions of power. That in itself is insane.

I think Trump's biggest fears if he were to win again would be: how he's remembered after death and the threat of going to jail. His children's future is likely a distant 3rd, if only because they carry his name.

As we've learned over the years, presidential power is near unlimited with Congress more checked out than acting as a check, and SCROTUS firmly under his bag.

There really is no reason for him to become a full dark lord when he could twist, bend and extend Presidential powers, a game both parties have played since Lincoln and in our lifetimes, under dub**** Bush w/ an alley oop from John Yoo types.

It's just with the way both parties have weaponized political discourse, neither side wants to return Presidential powers to the way they were 20...40...60 years ago.

It's easy to see why charges of dictator (Obama Czar?) are freely thrown around by people from the minority party at that time.

BTW, I fully agree with your take on his greedy grasp for power. His style is to coerce or force others to do the dirty work for him, which is more mob boss than authoritarian strongman in terms of who gets the "credit."

Yes, Israel is more than capable of paying for their own defense.
Great, people should feel free to voluntarily collectivize their efforts. I would prefer not being forced to participate.
I couldn't care less who the little John Galts or the peons pay or don't pay.

If anything could be more inefficient and less effective than the government, that would be it.

Every business, charity, and union is more inefficient and less effective than government? Those are all examples of people voluntarily collectivizing their efforts.

Except that the US government is based in the idea of a collective coming together to govern. That is what the preamble of the Consitution is “We the people in order to form a more perfect union…”

The US government is based in the idea of limited, enumerated powers. That's what the actual operative text of the Constitution says.

The *first* thing trump will do to secure the border... which of course ignores the fact that oil production is higher under Biden (and is at an all-time high) than it was under trump...

Those limited, enumerated powers include the power to raise funds for the government by levying taxes on the people to spend as Congress sees fit.

I'd just responded because you have this practice of asserting your policy preference and then justifying it with an appeal to your libertarian values -- which is fine for you to hold, but completely unpersuasive because I and most posters have already considered and rejected libertarianism. I will redouble my effort to let your libertarian posts just sail on by, but it takes some self-discipline.

I wonder if "drill, baby, drill" is the new code for
    "*****, *****, *****" (quoting Lee Atwater).

It is now more a rallying cry than something tangible.

Or maybe Trump is claiming responsibility for current oil production like he has the stock market ... since something something leading in the polls by a lot something something.
