I was down a baseball reference rabbit hole the other day and holy **** did he have a really really good 2010. He'd be up for CY Young consideration if he did that in 2024. 225 innings pitched. Solid ERA. Solid peripherals. Maybe one of the unheralded really great seasons by a JAG for a lousy Astros team in our history. That might actually be a fun idea to kick around sometime.
Wasn't Merrifield the same guy that whined like a b**** saying Altuve "stole" his All Star spot because of all of the unsubstantiated buzzer bs?
Man, I've been rooting for this kid since he got drafted. I really hope he can turn it around and get into the bullpen rotation soon....
A lot of good and bad memories on that page. Jesus Guzman was an Astros Opening Day 1B in 2014. My mind has decided it wasn't worth keeping that Jesus Guzman was an Astro prior to today. Notable absence in the OF last season, and an injury combo breaker at 2B last year. A different type of notable absence at DH in 2012. I'd forgotten Tucker the older ever started on OD. Fowler was only an Astro for one year? Man, it seemed like he patrolled CF longer.
The '93 Couldabeen OD roster makes my brain bleed Lofton - 8 Biggio - 4 Bagwell - 3 Caminiti - 5 Gonzo - 7 Cedeno - 6 Finley - 9 Catcher Pitcher
The 91 team had a crazy roster considering they had the worst record in the NL Many not in prime but Mike Scott, Curt Schilling, Kenny Lofton in addition to the usual suspects.
I want him facing the top of the order in meaningful games, whether you call it The Fireman like in the old days or just the High Leverage Pitcher, There is room for all. We are expecting B Abreu, Pressly and Hader to pitch 7, 8 & 9, but there will be times we should consider deviating from the standard.
