It became painful to watch him recently after the All-Star snub. He is so slow, soft, unmotivated, and in times lazy. It takes a few seconds for him to start to move when he gets the ball. If he is tired all the time, then work on conditioning. His free throws are killing me. STFU and just shoot them! He shakes his shooting arm before the FTs and the fatty tissue jiggles like my mother's arms. He needs to get in the gym. His defense was sometimes average, mostly bad. Instead of touring beach clubs, he should not leave the gym one hour and work on his shot all summer. No unimportant national games, no hanging out with famous turkish tiktok dudes. His work ethic was questioned before and I can see now a bit of that might be true. With this mindset, his ceiling / peak will be what we already witness. I see the team decided to tank, but still I don't see enough effort from him. a SOF. ps. I have high expectations from him. These developmental years are so crucial. I wish him the best.
He’s definitely looked tired lately. Hopefully the break and eventually FVV coming back gets him back to earlier season form.
I mean there is no way talking helps. It’s something that shows it is in your head. He probably did it all his life and it is hard to let it go. Maybe he should see a therapist.
We need Adelman's offense. With a passer like Sengun (and now Amen), you've got to do some off ball screen and movement to create easy baskets.
I agree with this but roster quality and construction is the main problem. Even if you don’t do what you say, Sengun is consistently getting doubled and he can pass it out. But the shooting is not there. Not the ability to take advantage of the double team by continuing to move and create new opportunities. Because Jabari, tari, Tate, brooks are not good at moving with the ball or passing after that. Green can do that but he can’t shoot and just learning to finish. That’s why it helps to have holiday or even cam on the floor. This roster is poorly constructed and lacks in talent in certain areas. Until you address that, the other things won’t help much.
I agree. That can be said for the entire team. As for Alpi, he set a high standard with what we saw from him earlier in the season. He was doing it consistently so we know he is capable of it. He appears to be n a funk along with the entire team. He needs to pull out of it (as does the entire team). Hopefully the all star break will provide a reset for Alpi and the team so they can get back to what we saw earlier this season.
Actually the shots he's missed have been mostly easy layups. He's basically struggling with the physicality other bigs are giving him. You can't be proclaimed best player but have excuses when you're under performing. Blaming Sengun's teammates for his poor play means he's never responsible for his own play. Other centers are having field days against him
Agreed about low energy, it has been frustrating to watch him struggle in the past month. In December he looked like the second coming of Jokic. Now, he looks like a player who is a step slower than the defending players and doing predictable moves attacking the basket. Whatever the reason, he looks tired and frustrated. Until mid-January, he did not get swarmed this easily, he somehow avoided it by elite change of direction or some elusive passing. Now, we watch him drive predictably into a triple team and struggle to hold on to the ball. Often when he gets swarmed, the ball gets too close to the ground, and he passes to an open player outside the 3 point line at a weird angle. Make no mistake about it, Rockets are one of the worse 3 point shooting teams this year but Sengun's passes to outside seems, at least to the casual eye, difficult for catch&shoot.
Sengun off-season improvement focus: free-throw%, strength and conditioning, and three point% These improvements will get him in the All-Star game in 2025.
I agree that it will be great when he gets to about 35%+ on threes, and stops hesitating. In the meantime, don't look now, but his 3-point percentage is not a whole lot worse than that of our shooting guard...
