I think you are exaggerating his "flaws". You can have the last word. We are both just predicting the future and neither opinion is going to change.
the man has no history of shooting close to an acceptable level and is currently rocking 16% from deep, 35% from midrange, and 67% from the line…there’s no need for me to exaggerate anything don’t see how y’all can possibly think u can have a PG or primary ball handler that can’t shoot a lick, and think the team will ever accomplish anything of significance with that…this isn’t 2008, or 2012, or even 2015
I agree. We've already seen how that **** works with Ben Simmons. The good teams will find a way to make this guy ineffective if he doesn't develop a shot.
Rondo is also a good example of someone who was a horrible 3 pt shooter and then became somewhat respectable later on in his career. Amen at least needs to get to the point that teams can't completely leave him on 3 point line.
and everybody knows it too, but wants to pretend like that won’t be the case Amen will be easy work in a playoff series as a non-shooter…his defender will be 10 toes in the paint clogging up everything like we’ve seen countless times with guys like Simmons, Russ etc
It is really difficult for a player who does not have a shot to get serious playing time, I think the best example is Matisse Thybulle, Thybulle is a very good perimeter defender, athletic, but his role is very limited because his shot is not good, but of course he is(amen) more talented than thybulle but if he wants to have a regular career in the NBA, he has to improve his shooting.
I think he could manage to not be a huge issue in the regular season as a primary ball handler/PG who is a horrendous shooter in all facets…even Ben Simmons wasn’t really a problem in the regular season In a playoff series tho? It’s a wrap
https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nba...-2021-nba-playoffs/1a36rqljosdvt1lxnlg0s68s2e Philly was a Simmons dunk away from making the conference finals. If he weren't too mentally weak to simply dunk the ball, it would have changed the whole narrative. And sadly this is how Amen will be judged until he proves otherwise. If they make the conference finals that year it kind of kills the exposed in the playoffs debate. But I understand the concern. I believe that he is Ime's favorite player, so it should be an interesting path ahead. It's up to the staff to make this work.
Some of these airballs lead me to believe he and the coaches are completely changing his shot. While mid-season isn't the ideal time to do this, a gym rat like Amen could benefit immensely with a full off-season of shooting.
Meh... we ain't going anywhere this season. As long as he has the mental fortitude to endure it, hoist and air away!
I dont mind the Ben Simmons comp. Ben Simmons would be good if he was right mentally. Amen is not afraid to drive and take FTs. He is not afraid to take a 3 when he is butt naked wide open and he knows he is about to miss, lol
We are talking regarding lack of shooting. It is a playoff problem, especially in this era where a lot more zone defenses are through in the mix. He needs to be respectable at least and I really do hope he develops that part of his game.
Just want to point out that Giannis won a title with the offense largely running through him Yes, he is on another level in terms of physical dominance, but Amen does have some of those traits--insane wingspan & functional athleticism, high motor, good court vision/feel, etc. Giannis makes Russ look like a great shooter by comparison. Bulking up and getting really strong might be a path that would help Amen if the shot never comes around--he seems to have the frame for it.
