For anybody who thinks we gave up to much, or that Deke is to old, last year Deke played 1494 minutes for the Knicks. The three we gave up... 703 Pike 145 Wilkes 133 AG BTW, I like Pike, think he was injured, and am willing to give him another chance, but a back up center of Motumbo's quality was to good to pass up.
Whenever you have the leagues top scorer and the leagues most promising big man you have to be thinking championship. This is not to say that if we don't win the championship we give up on the team, just that the reality of winning is upon us and we should strive for it. The West looks VERY different this year and we have to take advantage of it. It is a very real possibility for us to be the two or three seed coming out of the West.
Despite a couple of things I would have done differently (Damon or James instead of Sura or Ward), I think we have done a fairly nice job balancing having an immediate title contender this year with the future in forming our roster. Minnesotta showed last year you can reconstruct your team and make a run for the title. They had the best record in the West, and might have won it all w/o injuries. On paper we have to be among the top 5 in prospects. I'd put SA, Minn, and Detriot as the 3 co-favs. On paper I put us next (I really don't think Indy has that go to guy for the playoffs). If the chemistry jells there is no reason we cannnot win next year's championship. I think our roster is set--now lets evaluate Lue, Howard, Boki, Sura, Ward and Mutumbo as role players this year and see if we need to tweak. If 3 or 4 of these guys work out like we hope, and assuming Yao, Tmac and JJ stay healthy--no reason why this year's ring can't happen. That is surely what we are gunning for.
I think Sura, Jackson, Howard, and Taylor are decent role players. We'll soon find out whether they're better than Derek Fisher, Rick Fox, and Robert Horry.
I know we are banking that DEKE is ours, but is anybody else worried that we could hit a snag like the T-MAc trade...I know the bulls G.M. is 10x better than the magics, but I am still paranoid
Yes, John Paxson is a great GM And he will definetly do everything to keep Mutombo, who don't wanna play for them. And won't make a big impact for them. Don't be paranoid. It's a done deal. I just don't see what can stop this trade...
I'm not hatin' bud. But IMO, John Paxson is one of the worst GM's there is. But it's true that Weisbrod handled the T-Mac trade as a gimp too...
Relax. The only holdup is the fact that they need League approval and the guys at the league offices took their labor day weekend a little early. It'll be done on Tuesday. Count on it.
Yuck. He's done. Finished. And wasn't that great in his prime. What a terrible idea. Cut the b*stard.
How bout no scott. He's got long arms and can fill up the lane for 10 mins, no matter how old. What is you guys' major malfunction? Better than Jason cornbread Collier.
DEKE HAS LANDED !!! I work at Bush Intercontinental Airport and as I was walking through the terminal earlier today guess who I saw. None other then Mutumbo & Patrick Ewing walking side by side through the concourse. No pics b/c I usually dont bring my camera to work but DEKE HAS LANDED. I guess this means we can expect a press conference any day now.
Why does everyone dislike John Paxson as a GM? Jim's the incompetant one (he was a much better player, though)
In the one year John Paxson has been GM of Chicago, he has made some pretty solid draft choices: Hinrich, Deng, Gordon, Duhon...
Probably has flown in for the physical, in which case if he passes, deal will be finalized, announced and a press conference Wed. or so.
