Yes, and Fox News is fair and balanced.

Most people don't remember the Daily Show from whenever the democrats were the prominent party..

They adhere to an old adage of the press that has almost been long forgotten.. to comfort the afflicted, and afflict the comfortable.

But mostly they just go after whatever makes for the best joke, because if they're not funny they go off the air.

    agreed....

i watch the daily show all the time, and to say that they're a mouth piece for the left would be dead wrong. they poke fun at everybody, whether liberal or conservative. that's what makes the show so funny. and the conversations are quite engaging and intelligent.

anybody that disagrees hasn't watched the show but a few times. while the show is liberal-leaning, it is in no way a liberally biased show.

I watch the daily show...well, daily. It is definitely a liberal leaning show. If you watch any of the interviews with a republican senator/campaign manager or whatever you can almost sense an animosity between stewart and the guest. How much of that is for the TV? Noone can be sure. But if you look at his recent interview with john kerry, Stewart did everything but bend over and spread em for kerry.

In his defense Stewart did tell a republican (i forget which one was on) that it's more fun to pick on goliath than david, which i agree with. But sadly, when most of our 18-24 year olds get most of their political information from the show it should make a slight attempt to be more balanced.

On another (off topic) note - you ever wonder why people agree to be on those "special reports" for the daily show? Does someone write into the Daily Show and say "I really want to be made fun of national TV for my problem!!!" or do they really think that the daily show will actually deal with the problems realistically? I have the same question for Da Ali G show.

anyone see the end of last night's show?

Stephen Colbert actually got to interview Tom DeLay and he asked him on the convention floor why he isn't speaking at the convention (despite being House Maj. leader) and DeLay's response was "who needs to hear Tom DeLay when you have Zell Miller"

Stewart asked Kerry some tough questions (were you in Cambodia, are you a flip flopper) albeit the delivery was in a joking manner and Kerry didn't answer. He treats McCain with kid gloves the numerous times he's been on there.

Its a "fake news show." They are trying to be entertaining. Trying to be more balanced would screw it up. You see a target, you attack the target.

In the world of Jon Stewart, Kerry is a boring, pompous, intellectual with no platform, and Bush is a goofball without a clue who uses fear as his platform.

Sadly, I agree with both descriptions.

So you think that segment of the population would be better informed by watching Fox News, MSNBC or CNN. At least Stewart is telling the truth.

That is the one thing I LOVE about TDS. Stewart takes issue with liars, pure and simple. He is a lot like Bill Maher in that respect.

Did you watch the interview with Dan Bartlett this week during the convention? That seemed really jovial to me... with a few fair questions thrown in by Stewart. Nothing hostile at all...

Now, as for Kerry's appearance. Please tell me the last time he's been on a show where he was directly asked about Vietnam, Cambodia, and the liberalness. Now, Kerry didn't answer, but Jon Stewart did MORE than his job when he asked the question.

If Bush came on, I am certain he'd be the same way - he'd ask questions, but in a joking manner. And knowing Bush's style, he'd be great (unlike Kerry, who dodged the questions).

Look, if you're a Bush supporter, TDS will anger you... but I think it's only because they have the most HARD news (i.e., not just campaigning stories) that must be dealt with on a daily news show. It was that way with Clinton, and it's that way now with Bush.

How many times can you hear the Kerry sucks and his campaign is focused on his service for 30 years ago and that he has no plan (ALL things Stewart has said on his show)?

Everyone who is remembering the show's treatment of Clinton is spot-on. The president has always been the biggest and best target for political comedy; just ask SNL. And Clinton pretty much MADE the Daily Show.

Bush, however, might have been the best thing to ever happen to the show...

And Stewart kisses the asses of ALL his guests, moreso those who are the premier political names. They WANT these people to be on the show and to come back, which is the same problem your average tv "news" show has.

I think Jon is genuinely amazed and appreciative that the biggest names in politics and entertainment will come on his little basic cable show. He was talking to Chris Mathews about why they will come on Hardball and he said it's because they want the publicity and he figures Zell Miller will come back on Hardball when he has a book to sell.

I have seen Jon give a needling hard time to people he believes to be shills or liars, even authors with a confused premise. If he has the facts to counter a claim , he will, no matter who or how big; but in a nice way.
