I dont think Biyombo should start over Sengun but we do need more defense around the rim. Its sort of along the same lines Silas was thinking. Using Sengun as a 6th man off the bench, since he's more of an offensive force
I think anyone who believes our best player should come off the bench doesn’t know ball. And that you have to reference Silas’ “thinking” proves this point.
Have you seen Jokic play defense without a few of his starters? Rockets blow them out, our guards get to the basket with no restraint. come on now. You're smarter to be doing this gimmick.
I think our answer could be in the draft, Alexandre Sarr. However, he is going to be a Top 5 pick. With Brooklyn playing poorly and with this being a poor draft, we may luck up and get into the top 5 or.we may can trade up.
I think thats where we differ, I don't think he's our best player. I think thats up for debate. However, I think your best player.should be able to play effectively on both ends of the court. Was Silas a poor head coach, yes! But he was a very good offensive coach. Just because he wasn't good at one aspect, doesnt mean he didn't have ideas on how to use certain players. If Sengun was a PF with a 3pt shot or a guard, I really doubt this would be an issue but because he offers no defense around the rim, its a problem. The Center is the last line of defense!
I've mostly had positive experiences with Turkish fans here, but man, some of these guys have to step back and take a look at how ridiculous they look.
Ive watched them both, ALOT! I think Sengun is more athletic than Jokic but he's shorter. Jokic is slow but because of his length, he can rebound out of his area, he just stands there a lot of times and effects opposing players shots. Is he shot blocker? No! But he is effective just by his reach and that's the difference between the two
OK. There is a weird call from some posters to trade Sengun for a rim protector to get to the playoffs. So, Capela is one of the best rim protectors that could be available, do we really believe that Capela will take the Rockets to the playoffs? Do you really believe that Amen who can barely shoot improve the Rockets playoff run? Sengun is not the only problem with the Rockets defense, get real folks. I wonder if folks paid attention to the record three point shooting from opponents lately. Anyway, this trade Sengun stuff is just bizarre.
Yeah but they had 2 of the greatest wing defenders of all time. Plus they had big guards too, like Ron Harper. You have to have length somewhere. Most teams have big centers. Also, all of the centers you mentioned were 7ft. Including big Bill Cartwright
(I've had this issue before where people come at me so I will state for the record: this is not what I think. I don't believe this. But this is a reasonable case that is being made by others, I'm just laying out the logic for the purpose of the discussion, and in an effort to answer your question) Nobody serious is saying this, at least not this simply. Obviously we don't just trade Sengun for a Capela/Claxton type and everything is peachy. That would obviously make the team worse. It's more about addressing the elephant in the room that even though Sengun is awesome, and even though he is the best player on the team, his defense is an issue that needs to be addressed. Maybe it does mean trading him at some point. Maybe it means moving him to the bench. Or maybe it means we find some unicorn 4/5 guy that can play next to him, a perimeter guy on offense who plays like a stretch 4, he spaces the floor and knocks down 3s but doesn't play inside, but then defensively he will guard other teams 5s and protect the rim and also grab rebounds. But whatever path we choose, the only wrong path is to move forward on our current path with Sengun as our guy who defends other teams centers and plays the role of rim protector. Because that can only take us so far, and wherever that ceiling is, it will never be a championship.
