What do you guys here in ClutchCity think about the idea of selling advertiseing on the average-everyday Joe's car? Would a business go for that? I mean there are people in Houston that drive more then actual cab drivers. Give me your thoughts. I'm thinking about trying to do that with my Saturn!

Well, if they'll put commercials in movie previews.. they'll do anything.

This brings a thought to mind. Would clutch ever make/distribute/sell merch like shirts or bumperstickers to promote the site?

Or is this place already saturated enough with members?

I think there are already enough users that he wants on the BBS. I guess he closed it out for a reason.

After a while you will probably get a bunch of posters on here that just come from other boards etc and want to annoy us. i think it was a good idea and it keeps the quality of the message board community high, so we don't have to weed through crap like all the other BBS's

They already do stuff like that here in California. I've seen a couple of cars that are all decked out with some Cola ad or something. And the city buses are often covered with ads for the hyped movie/tv show of the day. So if your question is, if it's a viable money making endeavor, it's already being done. And anybody that communtes a lot will be a good option.

Cause I was thinking, Im sure not too many more people see the taxi cabs (that have advertisements on them) then the amount of people that see me driving everyday. I'll put a big ass sign on my car if they paid for my car insurance every month.

That's the thinking. But instead of a big sign, what you get are these poster-like sheets that you cover your car with. They have guys that look at your car and figure out how to use every single free inch that you have. I never did it myself, but I saw a story on the news about the process. It's only a matter of time before it catches on in other states. Especially in a spread-out town like Houston.

Looney, I don't know who pays to have it done because it can be expensive. I read a story about Papa John's doing it to one of their cars or something and it ran $4000. That's a lot of pizza. :)

I don't know who does it in Houston, but I remember the term for putting the ads on your car is called "auto wrap". Search on the Internet or ask around about it.

I heard about this back in the dot-com era, when advertising was going to pay for everything . . .

I saw a few Red Bull cars around, and what's funny is that a few months ago (several years after seeing the cars the first time), I saw one of them again and it was all beaten-up, and the HUGE can that was on the top of it was gone. But it was obviously the same Red Bull car that I'd seen before . . .

I used to design auto wraps at my last job. I had a couple of clients that tried to do this. They had huge trucks, and Hummers ("cool" cars that would cath attentinon). The owners of the vehicles would try to find customers on their own to advertise on their car.

Your best bet is find a graphic company that has clients already lined up.

I would go to www.autowraps.com (or similar companies), but it looks like the site is down right now. Do a search for "auto wraps"
