My main guitar is an American Strat with three single coil pick ups. I use a B-52 triple rectifier at home, but if I am gigging, I just use a Fender Mustang II. No point in bringing a half stack of they are just gonna mic me up. My other guitars are a Gretsch Electromatic Jet with TV Jones mini-bucker pick ups, a Gretsch Electromatic hollow body, a Jackson SLX with Seymour Duncans, and a Gibson Sonnex with Seymour Duncans ( the George Lynch series on the bridge). I also pick around on in the backyard on an Alvarez acoustic.
I know somebody selling a supro keeley custom 10 for 600$, worth it? Idk if you guys noticed but amp prices have been jacked up like crazy Apparently this amp was used for the rhythm on this album (which I'm having trouble making out in the mix). He toured with it and replaced one of the tubes so a little wear and tear @jo mama @Kevooooo, @Killatron 2000
When my wife and I moved into our home, I resolved to sell off all the guitar gear I wasn’t using - mostly the big stuff that my old back has no interest in lugging around ever again. Unfortunately, those big items were replaced by more small items. Just about everything gets used, but it would have been smarter to put the money in the market (even with it being down this year). The more dollars you get, the less cents you have….
I'm feeling kind of rejuvenated on guitar lately. I turned to learning the "Hotel California" guitar solo (finally after putting it off forever) and it's coming along quite nicely. I've got most of it down. Just need some minor work on some middle parts. So, now I'm able to play my way through the whole song basically with a little note-finding in the middle of the solo. This is big. YUGE step forward for my confidence level! I can play anything! Also, the last two days I've been improv-ing my way through the catalog of Foo Fighter songs. It's amazing how easy those are to pick up by ear. I'm rocking out "My Hero" and "Everlong" really well along with others.
Alright....I am now the proud player of the full Hotel California guitar solo and I've got some good rhythm work going on in the choruses along with a cool intro. I just never thought I would be able to play this song all the way through. It's weird coming up with something on just one guitar because there are like several layered guitar tracks and two guitar players. But, that solo is sweet. It has some great bends and some great emotion to it. I love playing it. I kind of impressed myself a little. Not anyone can play that solo all the way through. Obviously, a lot can. And, now I'm one of them! Would have been cool to be able to play along to it with another player, though. I'm an unofficial Eagle! But, I play along with the song video just great and it still sounds good when I just play solo so. That's the thing about guitar. It's cumulative small wins...which can lead to breakthroughs. I've noticed I just feel better improv solo-ing in general. Trying to pick up some useful theory here and there. But, guitar solos in general are a really good way to understand and figure out scales within the context of that song and beyond. You see the same patterns. It's amazing how many solos just derive from a simple pentatonic pattern and position or two or three. I always find it fascinating when I hear about players like Dave Grohl, Paul McCartney, and Alex Lifeson who don't read music but, really imo, these guys have just learned by ear from experience, playing with other players, and hearing what works note-for-note. It's just a continual refinement based on experience and it's unique to each player. A lot of it is that whole man-hour thing put into it. But, much of it is how you spend your time. Guitar is a truly adventurous, frustrating, humbling, satisfying, and unique experience that is all about emotive expression. But, when you feel you are in the zone, then it is a truly relaxing and soothing experience. Your playing just kind of takes over. It can feel effortless. Your instincts can take over. It's kind of like a drug.
That’s why I play hendrix stuff, thumb over for bass and play rhythm /lead all at the same time. If I’m playing sole lead has to be with someone else or a looper. Check out the trio pedal too, it takes a chord progression and designs a bass line and drum beat to it
I was watching a video by Rick Beato where he is interviewing the newer guitarist Kiko from MegaDeth. Kiko was showing some incredible technique with his picking prowess and I've been playing around with some of those exercises where he just mutes with his left hand on the fretboard and does all this picking stuff with his right hand. It sounds really cool (it makes for good crickets!). I love just making all these crazy noises muting various spots on the fretboard and just going to town with practicing picking only. You guitarists should check out that video on YouTube if you have not or it is interesting even if you don't play guitar.
@Buck Turgidson @Surfguy @subtomic @Killatron 2000 @jo mama The closest thing to hendrix I've ever heard (on youtube)
