Every non criminal should move out at this point…as a context I’m in middle Tennessee- much of Murfreesboro feels like decent suburban Houston, you have posh areas to live nearby like Brentwood, Nolensville and Franklin …these are great communities then you have the armpit of Tennessee which is Memphis, a city a bit smaller than Nashville but larger crime …now to extrapolate that imagine nearly 5 times smaller than Houston but more dangerous with crime per person…if I can’t fathom living in Memphis, how could anyone given a choice live in Oakland is beyond me

I have zero interest in politics, though I’m jewish so of course the antisemitism pisses me off. However, if you choose to live in a city like Oakland you do not get to complain about crime or anything, period.

You don’t need to be political to understand that Oakland is way more hood than Houston.
The people who are political will lie to you face and tell you Oakland is like Disney world breh

    A’s, raiders, and warriors left

I went to school in Memphis, first Rhodes (it was Southwestern back then), then Memphis Mistake (better music dept.). I still have good friends there, but everyone with any sense, or means, has moved east. there are many parts of town you just don't go.

As we think about policies that are best for society, addressing the urban crime problem is a big one. Wealthy people can move to the suburbs or rural areas to escape it, but those who cannot afford houses/cars cannot make the same move. So what's left behind in the cities tends to be a cauldron of crime, poor education, poor governance. Covid pushed more people towards the suburbs, since people don't have to go to downtown office buildings anymore -- accelerating the problem of urban decay. Most politicians' concern is losing control of the cities -- like Summer 2020. So they throw scraps to the affected groups (stimulus, loan forgiveness) and make empty political gestures (defund the police, support for BLM) once every four years to try to appease them and prevent a destabilizing uprising. Self-sufficient people are already protecting themselves against future instability by moving way out of cities, where liberal judges and corrupt leaders have poisoned the judicial system and local governance.
