If your definition of trouble is potentially missing the play-in, then I would say we are already in trouble.
In the context of this thread perhaps, but Capela isnt the only potential big that might be available when that last week before the trade deadline is upon us. While Capela is preferable to Landale, I hope someone else becomes available who is preferable to Capela.
I'm asking this because i genuinely don't know, is there any NBA team that spends a lottery FRP for a backup big? Especially when one of their best player is a Center?
Jabari plays the most minutes of anyone. We are getting to a point where Jabari and Dillon can't be off the floor unless Tari is active.
Claxton is a perfect fit and timeline-wise it's perfect. I'm not sure why more people aren't banging on the table for him. We have such lucrative capital to dispose to Brooklyn that it should be an easy deal. I guess it's really up to Claxton if he sees himself as a starting caliber player, which he probably does... but maybe we can convince him winning is more important. I think we could offer him close to starter-ish minutes. If Sengun keeps improving his 3 then the both could play together in spot minutes.
Just my opinion but half a season of Claxton doesn't seem worth giving up a top 10 pick. Compounded by our teams dire need of offense more so than defense, it just seems like low value..
Claxton is about to be a UFA in a few months. He's going to go wherever offers him that bag and he's having as good of a year that lets him go after that. The Rockets aren't going to be the one nor should they be. Unless he sees himself as some backup with much less money which I don't see
I believe Okongwa is under contract for at least a few more seasons. It depends on how many minutes they play, how good you are and how well you pay them. There is not a huge number of players that fit what the Rockets need - but there are enough to keep the market such that they likely stick around if they are getting close to 30 minutes a night.
First, I wouldn't deal a number one pick for Claxton like some have said. As for the kind of money Claxton will get, I think the Rockets would be more concerned about the length of the contract than the amount. I personally wouldn't give up the Nets pick for any of the names available.
Not necessarily. There are other centers out there. The Hawks may want to get out of Capela's 2024-2025 salary by taking Landale's non guaranteed deal etc.... but I would rather look elsewhere.
I would only give up a pick for Claxton if there was an agreement to an extension. It’s probably a pipe dream though.
You realize if you just wait half a season you can offer Claxton the most money and you don't give up a pick? If you aren't gon a offer him the most money and he leaves for another team you realize you just lost a pick for half a season of Claxton?
Not at the expense of a first round pick Not at the expense of $20m / $22m in salary cap space. I'd rather use the Nets pick on a cost controlled big assuming it falls late in the lottery. Otherwise, there's 3 second round picks .... that's a much better allocation of assets than a #1 and all that cap space on a backup.
