Well, I got my first "ticket" yesterday. I was driving back from a delicious lunch at Wings n More, when suddenly the State Trooper car infront of me pulled onto the shoulder so I passed him and then suddenly he pulled out behind me and turned on his lights etc. I didn't know what was up. I wasn't speeding (the obvious part was that we were at a red light and just began to pull away when it turned green), and I know I didn't run the red etc. Well, when he pulled me over he told me my inspection sticker was expired. Well me being dumb I guess, didn't realize it was going to expire this summer. I got my insurance renewed, my registration redone etc. And never once did I consider that my inspection on my truck had to be done. In my mind my truck is still brandnew, and so I never thought about it. I bought the truck back in 2002, and never once really thought about needing to get the inspection done in 2004. I guess I really never looked into it, and I thought when I brought it into the dealership etc. for engine warning lights etc, everything was done. Well, the cop wrote me a citation and told me what judge I had to see etc. When the cop was finished issueing me the citation he speed up past me and pulled over another car which was just 2 cars ahead of me. It was like he was trying to make his qouta or something. Anyways, to quit babbling..... I got home and read the paper. Turns out it's going to cost me $130, and all because I didn't pay attention/know to go out and pay my $12.50 to get it inspected. I hope I don't have to pay the fine but I doubt I will be let off. I am going to bring in the papers showing I had it done etc, and my sad sad story of not really know that it had to be done. But whatever....it's just money...which is pretty much food to me. That sure ruined me day....anyways.... thanks for wasting 2 min of your life reading this.
Man, that is cold! Sorry to hear that Uprising. I have only been pulled over once by a trooper and I did not get out of the ticket (it was for speeding). Something similar happened to my mother that happened to you except it involved her not having her updated insurance with her. IIRC, she had to pay like $130 and could have avoided it if she had gone to court and showed the judge her proof of insurance. But she thought it would be a waste of her time to do that...little did she realize.
If you don't live in the greater Dallas or Houston areas, you don't have to do the emissions stuff, so the price is $12.50. I would get my car inspected on my trips to Amarillo because of this.
Yes, it costs about $40 now. That's the bad news. The good news is if you get your car inspected within 1 week of the citation, the ticket only costs about $20. So go get 'er dun.
Yes if you can register your car outside of Houston, you definitely save on the inspection and insurance costs of vehicle ownership. I greatly enjoy firing up my 4.6L V8 engine without the additional pollution requirements Harris County inspections require.
I was fairly close to the east area of town off of I-10 last weekend when I was pulled over by a Jacinto City police officer. Well, I really wasn't pulled over he was standing on the side of an underpass. He was hiding on the side of it catching people that either went through the u-turn or were turning to hit the feeder road. Basically he was pointing at people who he could see violations on i.e. seat belts stickers etc. And everyone had to pull over in this little parking lot that I believe the business was closed on that day. They had 2 more officers in the parking lot who would listen to him yell at drivers to pull into the lot. And he would yell at the officers what citations to write them. Total fu**king A Hole. He was being loud and proud showing how he was the man and there wasn't a damn thing you could do about it. (I bet his wife / girlfriend does not give him any at home so he gets his rocks off jacking with folks.) Well of course one of my stickers were out so I got one. No biggie. The thing about this whole situation is that on one side of the freeway it’s Houston and on that side they claim its Jacinto City. What can we do about this crap? Shouldn't he be in his patrol car driving up and down the roadways pulling people over? Instead he gets a trap set up where one cop points out all the violations and kind of does a check point and the other ones just write up the old tickets all day. And you have to sit there in your car waiting for your turn to get one. Next time I’m going to put my car in reverse and he can give me a ticket or take me to jail for evading arrest or wreck less driving. Then I’m going to ask him to kindly remove his badge and gun and show me how big and bad he really is. (Just kidding)
I would hope this to be true. I didn't have it written on the Yellow paper he gave me. If someone didn't have their insuarance card with them at the time, they could get out of the fee if they were to prove that it was insured at the time of being pulled over. Man, I hope they don't make me pay. If they do this seriously hurts my hopes of getting cable internet.
Seriously?! If this is true you just made my day FFB! I got it inspected last night (same day of the ticket).
You should never get a ticket. Put that cop in his place. "Sometimes you gotta be very blunt and sound like an a hole but hey if you don't put em in check someone else will."
On my recent vacation to ecology minded Alaska, I found out that 85% of the carbon dioxide produce by burning hydrocarbons is absorbed in the oceans. Well, I figured that just fertilized the phytoplankton but no, as it turns out, it effects the Ph of ocean water, making slightly less basic, causing all kinds of problems for little beggers. No biggie though, all the really do is replenish our oxygen supply and provide the basis for the ocean food chain.
