Ime Udoka on Alperen Sengun vs Bulls: "He played one half of basketball, basically"

Ime is lying, I saw Goon in all 4 Qs + OT.

 

Love it, Ime is holding Alpie to a superstar standard and will elevate him to a level he didn’t even see in himself.

Also as much as the loss hurts this was the best kind- Alpie proving again that he’s one of the best players in the world, and also a learning lesson that if he doesn’t have that dominant mentality from tipoff then this team is not good enough to win. Also Cam really coming on, I know everyone was already high on him since the draft but a 20th pick hitting is massive for the future of this team and it’s ceiling, almost huge enough to over come hypothetically missing on a top 2 pick.

Speaking of which, as for Jalen, I think we are just going to have to take an L, he wasn’t terrible but calling his own number when Alpie had the team on his back just shows a complete lack of game awareness and humility, shows me we can never trust him with the ball during high leverage situations so then why is he even out there?

 

I do think Sengun needs to set the tone more. We have a couple of games where we get so behind and have to play catch up

 

Ime said that All-Star campaign was cute and all, but we need you to be a superstar now. Be Him.

Sengun's defense was also better in the second half.

It's tough to win with young guys, especially those who have been taught there are no consequences. Ime is trying to teach them to set winning standards. It will pay off in the long run.

We win this game if Brooks plays. The experience would tell.

 

Yeah....Harden and Udoka never would've worked out.

 

The drama would have been funny, Udoker tells the complete naked truth and Harden throwing passive aggressive daggers from his HQ in Vegas.

Udoka seems a much more progressive coach than fans give him credit. He doesn't generally bench players as punishment. He just plays the 5 guys he thinks gives him the best chance to win. Not being among the best 5 is what causes a player to be on the bench at the end of the game.

 

Good. Tell it like it is, and make him even better.

I'm reminded (forgive me) of "The Godfather" novel, which the movie followed very closely. When Don Corleone slaps Johnny Fontaine and says, "You can act like a man!" (then adds in a high-pitched whine) "'What can I do, what can I do?'" The book added that it was so unexpected. Michael would have walked out, pride wounded, not to be seen for 3 months; Fredo would have been completely cowed; Sonny would have been furious; but Johnny laughed it off (as in the movie).

So, criticize Alpi and he's good. Others might not react as well.

 

Sengün had a bad first half, but he has shown effort actually, so while I think Ime has every right to call him out.....

His choice of words are a bit cynical.... and fans that have not watched the game would think Sengün did not play one half......or threw a tantrum.

 

We lost the game at the line. I would get to the Palace in Auburn Hills or wherever we play next and shoot 500 FTs each.

 

You should do all of your analysis through a Godfather metaphor. Would read.

It's possible that Udoka knows saying comments like this will motivate Sengun and that Jalen is a creampuff that is better motivated by tiktok and Fortnite.

But I agree, no one should be immune from criticism in any walk of life.
