On one hand: Slowik is not as bad as many of yall make him out to be. On the other: Slowik would be replaceable by any number of young innovative offensive coaches. Texans are a destination/springboard job now. For now: I'll give him another year at least, and if Demeco and Stroud like him I'm cool with it.
Jerrod Johnson is probably ready, though I don't think Slowik gets hired this year. Next year, Johnson would take over. Then, two to three years later, rinse and repeat.
It’s what kind of sux about today’s NFL. All the owners want that sexy offense so if an OC guy shows a modicum of success they get poached. So if you hire a DC as a head coach you’re gonna have to constantly replace your OC every two or three years. OC head coaches don’t have to worry that much about their DC getting poached bc the trend is to hire an OC. And if youre a legit successful offensive mind HC (Mcveay, Kyle, McDaniel etc) you don’t have to worry too much about your OC getting poached bc YOU ARE the offensive architect. edit. I’m not to worried about Bobby leaving bc, maybe I’m old school, but I like that formula of having a fantastic DC as a head coach and a franchise QB doing his thing. That Super Bowl formula has worked with Tomlin, Cowhard, Belichick etc.
Not a fan. Play calling has a BOB vibe. When a fan can predict 80% of the calls what do you think an NFL DC can do?
I'm not worry about it. Doubt Slowik really leaves, and I won't lose sleep if he does. If he is smart, do what Ben Johnson did and stay another year and don't go to the Panthers if he wants a future in this league. I'm sure Slowik is a smart guy.
Pretty much where I'm at. I don't think he's horrible...but man is he predictable. I know the moment we go up 2 scores (even if its a measley 10 point lead) he's going to shell up and go extra conservative instead of stomping on the other teams throats. That Colts game was nerve wrecking. So many times in the 2nd quarter we got stop after stop and I just kept thinking man just imagine if we were putting up ANY kind of points. Even getting in Kaimi's FG range and adding 3s. At the same time, I don't think he's horrible. I agree it would be dumb to go to Carolina. Their new owner seems like a complete mess and nightmare to work with. Dude is speedrunning to win 'worse owner in sports' at this rate. In the end I hope he stays another year just so the Texans can be more sure about who to promote because I don't want someone else coming in with an entirely new system for CJ to learn either. I feel like Slowik won't be the OC here for more than 3 seasons.
While I wouldn’t blame him if he has aspirations to be a HC to listen, I also don’t want my OC doing so the week we have a game. If we had a bye, sure, go take an interview this week, but otherwise he’s got a job to do and one of the top defenses coming in.
If he's smart and thinking long term, he'd stay FAR away from either of those jobs (although Washington getting out from under Li'l Danny Snyder makes them an infinitely more attractive destination albeit still gawdawful). Both those organization are set up at the moment to have whoever comes in fail spectacularly. The main issue I'd have with him leaving at this point is disrupting the continuity with CJ's development. That ESPN article really showed how great the relationships are right now between Slowik, CJ and DeMeco. I think it's imperative that they maintain that for at least a couple more years.
I only had issues with Bobbay in the Carolina game. Trying to get too cute with the game plan by forcing a non-existent running attack. Oh, and the Bengals game, you go to know when to chill out, Bobbay. Other than those 2 games, I thought he was outstanding in 1 aspect and it's his biggest appeal: integrating a rookie qb into the Kubahan system. He listens to Stroud and the rest of the guys for input. So if I'm drafting a qb or have a sophomore that was the 1st pick, someone like Slo would do wonders. Hope he stays but if he's gone I'll miss the King of The Hill memes.
If I were a Panthers' fan, and their solution to fix their franchise-crippling trade for Bryce Young was to hire CJ Stroud's offensive coordinator, I would be irate - well, more irate than I already was. That is such a lazy solution.
I would think Harris coming in and having the 2nd pick in a draft with two high-level QB stud prospects would be a favorable destination. They have some talent on offense, too - though I don't know much about their defense or cap situation, etc. But I'd argue its a 5000000000000000000 times better job than Carolina.
Dan O on ESPN put the idea out that the Titans will make Bobby their number one choice bc of his time in SF with Titan GM Ran Carthon. I wouldn’t put it past that trash organization to try and pull something like that. We live in Amy’s head rent free and their entire identity is based on trying to own the Texans.
