perhaps this belongs in the hangout, but my experience yesterday suggests I don't! in any case, there are several new songs protesting the war or the admin that at least attempt to harken back to the sainted era of 1968. WFUV, the great Fordham U. public radio station plays alot of them. rather than dwell on their politics, what do you think of them as songs? i like steve earle's the revolution starts now, and John Fogerty's Deja Vu All over again, although it doesn't quite rise to the level of who'll stop the rain. don't think john mellencamp's peaceful world makes the cut though. any other new ones?
there's a new cd out of Bob Dylan songs performed by Reggae artists. is A Times They Are A Changin a protest song?
World On Fire - Sarah McLachlan Hearts are worn in these dark ages Youre not alone in these stories pages The light has fallen amongst the living and the dying And Ill try to hold it in Yeah Ill try to hold it in The worlds on fire its more then I can handle Ill tap into the water try and bring my share Try to bring more, more then I can handle Bring it to the table Bring what I am able I watch the heavens but I find no calling Something I can do to change whats coming Stay close to me while the skys falling I dont wanna be left alone dont wanna be alone Hearts break hearts mend love still hurts Visions clash, planes crash still theres talk of saving souls still the cold's closing in on us We part the veil on our killer sun Stray from the straight line on this short run The more we take the less we become The fortune of one man means less for some
i'm a little torn tho, since i'm tempted to spirg for the earle song, but then, i'd be supporting a guy who mocks what i think is the most important issue facing our country...guess i could pretend he's singing about the revolutionary Bush doctrine!
