I hear you. I guess Sexton just doesn’t sound that appealing to me right now after getting smoked by the Twolves due to lack of size last night. Even Kelly Olynyk as a back up 5 for that matter. Would 100% be an improvement so it’s a good option. But our needs are: A) Back up 5 who can protect the rim and rebound B) Shooting on the perimeter I think Alex Caruso + Andre Drummond, albeit not perfect, would fill those needs better. Both are better defenders too.
Caruso is a better player than Sexton, for sure, but I think maybe a worse long-term fit? Dude is what, 29 now? I like the idea of getting Drummond though. Wonder if he could be had for a second rounder or two.
People keep saying this and I just don't buy it. There may not be a generational talent at the top of the draft but there are quite a few really good players - particularly one of this Rockets teams biggest needs - a cost effective backup to Sengun.
The other need is a role player off the bench that is a shooter (probably at the guard position). That and a backup for Sengun are the only 2 player archetype that the rockets are missing at this point. Those 2 and Eason/Brooks off the bench in two seasons would create a nice bench.
Here's a wild one: Houston in: Tyler Herro Miami in: Jerami Grant Malcolm Brogdon Jae'Sean Tate Portland in: A bunch of filler contracts (Lowry, Landale, Dipo), Nikola Jovic A haul of first round picks from both teams Don't know if I think Herro is good enough to send out multiple first rounders. Just a random idea.
The Memphis Grizzlies were dealt an unfortunate blow on Monday night regarding All-NBA guard Ja Morant, who will miss the remainder of the season with a labral tear in his shoulder. The Grizzlies had already started the 2023-24 season behind the 8-ball, in large part because of Morant's 25-game suspension. https://spacecityscoop.com/posts/3-...om-the-grizzlies-following-ja-morant-s-injury This could make some guys available. Do we want any of them?
As far as need, Biyombo as a backup C. Gives a different texture to Sengun and Jeff Green for playstyle. They won't trade their core. Previously was thinking maybe for the right price Marcus Smart could be had. Probably no longer with Ja out, Marcus would run the pg with Bane. Marcus would for the first time in his career not make the playoffs because of Memphis. Other inquiries: 6'9" PF GG Jackson.
On Olynyk and Sexton, just be mindful this is Ainge we're dealing with, unless picks, more would have to be offered than just the contracts of a Tate, Bullock or Landale. Olynyk was a feel good in HOU, but peeps forget how bad he was in DET. In Utah he's good offensively as a connector, while an upgrade over Landale, he's not going to give the rim protection if that's what Rockets is looking for. His rim protection is likely worse than Alp. I like KellyO as a player, just not sure the holes he'd fill here. If we get him, what questions would he solve (high IQ, lets Jeff rests more), but is the backup C issue completely solved? Sexton has played games off the bench over there. Has pros and cons, I don't hate idea, if he's able to run the 2nd unit properly and we don't overuse FVV. That said, the Amen fans might pitch fork. If team thinks they can make the play-in and is serious about it, Sexton offers good depth.
If we can get our players back from Atl that we traded last yr Im happy! Bruno and Matthews All we need is a backup center that can bang in the middle, give Sengun some rest and someone who can shoot from the perimeter. Cam is coming on, Jalen is turning the corner but we need someone to help spread the court.
Hell no he’s not good enough to send out multiple picks, i don’t think he’s positive value at all. He’s not poole but he’s someone i would have 0 interest in
Since Memphis likely needs to take a year off to retool with Morant out for the year. Tate for Biyombo straight up. Clears wing minutes for us and gives us a backup 5 we sorely need. Getting a rotational player for cheap next year as well as this is good value for a cheap FA signing set to expire for Memphis
I wouldn’t give up multiple FRPs for Herro, but I wouldn’t hate trading for him, either. He’s averaging 23 points, shooting 42% from 3, and is on a pretty reasonable contract. He’d be a major upgrade IMO.
He also cuts into cap space a ton, even if he’s a neutral contract and you can get him for free i would be very very iffy
Agree with the first part. Heat are ahead of their usual curve and they look like they’ll gel more as the season progresses this season. They’ll prob also build around Herro as one of the main pieces once Jimmy retires considering his contract is super reasonable. Not sure I agree with the second part. His contract is starting to look like a bargain and will continue to do so if he keeps his level up play or keeps getting better. Factor in cap spaces increasing and the Heat are golden with him. He’s basically putting up identical shooting % and scoring numbers to Ray Allen’s 4th year in the league and the first year he became an all star. He’s also a good rebounder for his size and can create for others while not being a natural playmaker. All that while still being 23 for a couple more weeks. I’d say the asking price of a haul of 1sts sounds about right if they weren’t in win now mode and were rebuilding.
he may be worth a haul of firsts for the right team, but that aint us! we are years away from contending. Sengun needs to continue to develop and grow along with our other players. i know hero's game, he's a very good player, but adding him to us won't make us a contender.
