A few of you have asked about the "Francis cell phone call..."

This is a legendary story that, IMO, solidified cc.net as a true source of Rockets inside info. It is the perfect example of 1000 sets of ears are better than one as demonstrated today by rockHEAD.

About a week before the Francis trade happened, someone (I can't remember the poster, sorry) posted that they were in the mall and overheard a man on a cell phone discussing landing Francis in Houston. He sounded like someone from the Rockets and this poster (a teenager) followed him to eavesdrop.

Apparently, the gentleman saw him and told the party on the other line that he had to go because some kid was following him.

This poster got absolutely DRILLED by people saying he was full of crap, etc. Well, lo and behold, one week or so later, it became reality.

I've talked to people in the Rockets organization about this and they told me that they are more careful about things like that now as a result. They know there isn't much they can do but it really did change the perception they and many journalists had about this BBS.

Anyway, it is still one of the coolest bits of inside info we've ever had on this board simply because of how it happened and how incredibly strange it was. [IMG]

Interrupting a celebrity customer for the sake of personal curiosity; using the employer's digital camera and upstairs office to photograph the celebrity for the sake of personal curiosity; using the employer's computer (evidently) to inform friends of the celebrity's activities and to pass along the photographs.

Let's hope this thread doesn't make news, or we're going to have to find our friend rH a new job.

With free agent signings OK after 7-18-01 shouldn't CD be getting back from LA and getting busy? So if Hakeem doesn't want to play here next year- Rockets need to know and renounce- still alot of FA work that needs to get done.

Maybe a deal has already been done to get Dream his money and a new team in exchange for someone else. Maybe, deals have already been reached with Mo and Mooche that are tentitive on this deal going through after the 18th. That would explain why almost no one has had any free agent conversations with any of our free agents.

Dream to Denver for LaFrentz in a sign and trade?

How about to Orlando for Outlaw and Haywood in a sign and trade?

Thanks for the scoop rH. I don't doubt you one little bit (even without pics) and I will
    tell you why.

Dream is no dummy. In fact, from my understanding, he is a very schrewed businessman. Does anyone remember the old cliche..."the best form of advertisement is word of mouth." Well, that can be both positive and negative. Considering how badly things went last year when the media got involved (Dream's PR took hit as well has the Rox, IMO), I would certain tell a Rox fan what Dream said in hopes that it will get around. Think about it. If the Rox, know there is an impasse and this gets back, how would they react? And Dream can be held liable, because it's Dream word against "a" rockHead [IMG]
I know by the time I read this, 80 people have responded to this thread. How many more read it and didn't respond? I can see this as a topic of conversation at the water cooler, at the sport bar, maybe even on 610 AM. All because of one "casual fan". Very good gamemanship, IMO.

Sad to hear this though, but life moves on. Dream WAS the Rockets, he no longer IS the Rockets. He and all us fan must get use to it. I hate to see him in another uni, but nostalgia can only go so far. Now, why in the hell won't Chris Webber give us an audience. I have lost a lot of respect for that guy. I mean not to even return calls or openly talk about Houston anymore as a possible destination? Hell, we are certainly better than Detroit and Indiana!

Anyway, my two cents. Thanks again for the scoop rockHead. I hope you know I was joking earlier in my post.

i don't know if anyone else saw the rockets sonics '87 game on espn classic the other night, but hakeem was unbelievable in that one. And at that time he was just a SHADE of his NBA title years. Probably the best player the Rockets will ever have.

I knew rockHEAD was a weird-o! [IMG] Seriously, if this is true, then this Dream fiasco may have hurt the Rockets chance to get a quality big man. If the Rockets had known that Dream wasn't coming back they could have renounced him and started flashing big bucks around to potential FAs.
