BYD is crushing it in China. Tesla will be #2 and the rest of the US companies will be pushed into a tiny %.

Other than Tesla, popular US auto brands lost major ground in China last year, the world's largest car market that's critically important to manufacturers. GM's car sales there fell by 20% from 2021, while Ford's declined by 33.5%, according to advisory firm Automobility Ltd.

and while EVs are still growing....it's not as fast as it was in 2022. Maybe it's the interest rates so we shall see in 2024.

The U.S. Market is Growing, but Not Growing as Fast as Before
While the total market deliveries for electric vehicles continue to rise, there has been a noticeable deceleration in this growth over the recent two-month period. This slowing momentum can be attributed to a confluence of factors, including product fatigue as consumers become accustomed to existing models without significant new innovations to stimulate demand. Additionally, a downturn in oil prices has made traditional fuel-powered vehicles more economically attractive to some consumers, which may also be tempering the growth trajectory of EV sales.

The company delivered 13,972 vehicles in the quarter to Dec. 31, 10% lower than the previous quarter. It was below estimates of 14,430, according to 13 analysts polled by Visible Alpha.

The smoking hot blonde on Price is Right is giving an EV away...I'd definitely consider all of it.

Not really. BYD has some extremely cheap EV's that resemble a golf cart than an actual desirable car for mainstream people. BYD will be successful and profitable unlike all the other EV manufactures out there. As long as China has the PRC regime, they will struggle with growth outside of China.

That said, BYD has been the only real competition to Tesla.

    The battle is on.

Tesla Model S Plaid Recaptures EV Lap Record at The Ring
    A Track Package-equipped Plaid ran a lap in 7 minutes 25.231 seconds
The Track Package certainly played a role in the improvement, bringing important upgrades such as carbon-ceramic brakes with track-ready fluid, a unique set of wheels and tires.

    6 months later:
A 'pre-series Taycan' lapped the ring in just 7:07.55. This makes it the fastest electric Porsche to ever turn a wheel in anger around the legendary track. It has also buried the Tesla Model S Plaid's previous record-holding 7:25.231 time by 17.681 seconds.

Or maybe everybody else is going to own Chinese EVs. lol. Jk. They do build a few nice looking/normal-looking vehicles, though. I think only around 8-10% of their sales came from outside China, too, so there's more of the pie to gobble up in the future. I don't know how reliable their vehicles are, but a lot of them "borrow" styling cues from Lexus, Honda, etc. which probably helps.

Although I love the idea of getting a Taycan Cross Turismo Turbo S, I am now considering a used 2022 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S e-hybrid.

With two kids, I like the idea of an SUV...more space, and I like sitting higher.

Also, was thinking that it could be useful for longer trips like to the west coast of Florida, Orlando, etc. (we are based north of Miami) to have one car with more range (also, if we ever have to drive up north because of a hurricane...).

I realize the battery only has like 20 miles range for driving purely with the battery, but that would actually be enough for us most of the time for school runs and grocery shopping/driving to the country club, everything is very close. Would probably rarely have to go to the gas station.

The acceleration of the Cayenne Turbo S e-hybrid seems similar to the Tesla Model Y Performance we already have and like (3.5s 0-60), sounds dynamic enough for an SUV. Top speed doesn't really matter in this country...would be different in Germany on the Autobahn :).

Does anyone have a car like that or know anything about it?

Two practical questions I would have:
    • Can you pre-cool them via app, like the Tesla? In the Florida heat, that's like the most important feature...
    • Can you charge their battery with an adapter on a Tesla home charger (we have two wall chargers installed)?
I think it's between this one and the Taycan Cross Turismo Turbo S for me...very few used ones of those on the market.

    Air conditioning
The air-conditioning system of your E-Hybrid vehicle can be controlled remotely using the Porsche Connect App. When precool/heat is switched on, an air flow animation is played. Advanced settings can be made using the Preconditioning menu and, depending on the vehicle equipment, air-conditioning can be activated in specific zones. The availability of the function depends on the vehicle type and configuration. Further information is available from your Porsche partner.

My wife has the X5 PHEV for a similar use case and it’s great. Range is about 30 miles, which works well for school drop offs and daily commute stuff. She’s had it a year — filled up the gas tank 3 times on about 8,000 miles.

On the adapter front, you should be able to use a J1772 adapter pretty readily — just get a reputable one or the “handshake” won’t work (similar to bad iPhone cables). Your worst case would be getting any other 3rd party charger for ~$500 or so. We have two of the Enel JuiceBox for our set up (I have an i4) and they’ve been trouble free.

legacy not dead yet. whether space monkey wants to post some BS about "competition coming" is his prerogative but not everyone is running to own a Tesla. Yet.

    • Toyota defies headwinds with strong year-end performance
    • General Motors’ U.S. vehicle sales increased 14.1% last year to represent the automaker’s best year since 2019.
    • Volvo Cars (VOLCARb.ST) sold a record number of vehicles in 2023, it said on Friday, boosted by electric car demand and stabilising supply chains

Having an engine sound on an EV is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Next level beta.

There’s a big difference between the official EPA range and what’s possible in the real world. Our MotorTrend Road-Trip Range test reveals how far you can travel at 70 mph.

    10. 2022 Tesla Model 3 Dual Motor
    MotorTrend Road-Trip Range: 258 miles
    EPA Range: 358 miles

The reality is that the Model 3 Dual Motor delivered a MotorTrend Road-Trip Range of 258 miles—a whopping 28 percent below the official range number. That's 100 miles less than buyers might be expecting, so it's no surprise Tesla has been accused of intentionally displaying inaccurate ranges in vehicles to match original estimates.

This test was run on a 74-degree California evening in the desert with minimal traffic on one of the flattest and straightest stretches of roads imaginable. These near-perfect real-world conditions are a good indication of how far you can go during one 70-mph jaunt. The fact that it makes this list means the Model 3 has great range, but it's not as great as advertised.

    9. 2022 Kia EV6 Wind AWD
    MotorTrend Road-Trip Range: 260 miles
    EPA Range: 274 miles

    2. 2022 BMW IX XDrive50
    MotorTrend Road-Trip Range: 312 miles
    EPA Range: 315 miles

    1. 2023 Lucid Air Pure & 2022 Lucid Air Grand Touring Performance
    2023 Lucid Air Pure RWD
    MotorTrend Road-Trip Range: 330 miles
    EPA Range: 394 miles

2022 Lucid Air Grand Touring Performance
    MotorTrend Road-Trip Range: 330 miles
    EPA Range: 446 miles

    2023 Lucid Air Pure AWD
    MotorTrend Road-Trip Range: 319 miles
    EPA Range: 410 miles
