I don't think a lot of people truly comprehend just how good Sengun is. Big man - typically the longest to acclimate to the NBA. A foreigner, speaking a language he couldn't understand with his teammates when he got here. No positive coaching and constant negative noise from his own organisation his first two years in the NBA. Only 21. And is doing.... this. On a nightly basis. 21 years old. It's not often you get a box score stuffer + doing the things the box score doesn't show. Players are usually one or the other. Low rebounding game? Watch him constantly box out the main offensive rebounding threat and allow a teammate to get the rebound. No box score statistic. Bad defender? Firstly, LOL. Secondly, just how often does he tip a pass from behind when it's going into the post, how often does he bend down low to deflect a pass in traffic and a teammate picks it up. No box score statistic. He is a fantastic screen setter. No box score statistic. Even when he is absolutely decimating teams possession after possession when the Rockets go into their 'give the ball to Sengun and let him cook' mode, he still is looking for his teammates even though he's on fire. I pray that he is a Rocket for life because my goodness, if he's this good this early and this young. I shudder to think going up against him in his prime.
A few of us wanted to watch it unfold from the very first year he was here because we knew how good he was already. But some wanted to watch KPJ dribble inside the 3 point line and pick up the ball and then get annoyed with teammates because he had no one to pass to - because no one on the court knew what the F he was doing.
Calvin Murphy: "His footwork is superb. But he has a 2 inch vertical." Gerald Green: "His greatest strength is how smart he is." Calvin Murphy: "He is like Larry Bird. Not athletic, but gets it done."
It's absolutely crazy just how many all-time greats he is constantly being likened to. Not even by Rockets homers. Opposition commentators as well. In the words of Jay-Z "real recognise real and you looking familiar"
His footwork is on par with Dream's, granted at .8 speed , but the creativity and effectiveness is the same. Just need to add that footwork together with the crane kick and see what happens.
Jacque Vaughn right now at the Nets post game press conference: "There is some risks that we had to take just because you can't guard Sengun one on one. You just can't. He is that good".
