Udoka is clearly a racist holding back Cam from achieving his stardom. I can kind of understand why he wasn't played tonight. (1) Jalen and Fred were red hot. (2) It was a close game. The coach couldn't afford to risk letting a rookie mess up the chances for winning.
I think even if Holiday is peaking it's almost time to start feeding backup guard minutes to Cam and Amen. Starting with 5-10 minutes and gradually building up. We've started that with Amen. Maybe Cam needed to tighten up some things too but I'm ready to move them up the rotation. Holiday and Bullock are not important to our future. I think we should look into trading Tate at the deadline. Great that we can do this slowly and gradually. Keeps their confidence up. There are still things that can be learned in G League for these two and I think this 7-game home stand will help accelerate their development a little if they get to practice with us. Very interested to find out what Amen's 3PT shot looks like towards the end of this season. I think he'll be able to hit 30%+ which is great for his first season. He should do nothing in the summer but work on his 3pt shot and polish that handle. Udoka has to have a heavy hand in his development.
Lol come on he's simply the lower pick, that's how it always works. In a meritocracy, you can't lose a spot because of injury. Only cause of bad performance. We can't audition two guys who don't know how to play. Amen goes first. Why does there have to be some nefarious reason or a huge mess up? It's the most common thing ever.
He or Amen should have taken some of Tate’s and Holiday’s minutes. Both were atrocious on defense. I get that he doesn’t trust rookies, but why does he trust Tate and Holiday so much. They were proving all game long that they were horrible. Would Amen or Cam given up even more points to Maxey (especially in the paint). I doubt it. I’m an Ime fan and understand that he is bringing these guys along at the pace he feels is correct, but I am starting to worry a bit about his game time deference to vets even when they are playing atrociously.
'Consistent Growth' is Needed For Rockets' Cam Whitmore to Receive More Minutes Cam Whitmore has remained at the end of the Houston Rockets rotation, but coach Ime Udoka would like to see "consistent growth" before awarding more playing time. https://www.si.com/nba/rockets/news/consistent-growth-is-needed-for-houston-rockets-cam-whitmore
I don't think it has to do with the fact that he's a lower pick. Udoka sees these rookies in practice and is probably getting tons of feedback from G league coaching staff as well. Cam just by eye test alone is quite undeveloped in terms of reading the game. Udoka seems to be running a pretty disciplined system on defense that requires a lot of attention to detail as a unit. Cam probably just has not shown he's there yet. When Amen is on the court, at least on defense seems to be quite in sync with the rest of the team. That's why he's getting the spot minutes.
This is what's funny. In most games I watch, he does show enthusiasm, even on the bench and even in the G-League. But there are certain plays or "situations" where he seems detached from the rest of the team or there's more of a playground aspect to his game. It's weird. Hopefully it's nothing too serious. Udoka and Cam have both already said in some fashion that they don't care about his offense - they know he has that. It's his defense and being consistent they care about and want him to improve on.
Cam is better than Tate, this is pure rookie treatment and we just need to be patient, IMHO, he should be in the game as much as Amen - but Ime clearly doesn't agree. Ime is a good disciplinarian, but I haven't seen enough of an offense to anoint him a great coach yet. DD
I'd prefer Cam getting big minutes in the G League than inconsistent minutes off the bench. Doesn't seem like it's his turn yet based on Ime.
