We'll never know either way for sure, but I don't think he wanted a better opportunity. He wanted away from basketball so he could lock into his family for a while. He turned down the Pistons but they kept increasing the money until he couldn't say no.

Some of his statements to the press at the very end in Phoenix and just after being hired by the Pistons paint a picture.

Something tells me Monty Williams would be a-okay with getting fired so he can sit at home and make the rest of his 80m dollars

Maybe, but how many more years? The average coaching salary is estimated between 4 and 6 million per year. Is 100 million, say over 12 years really worth more than 80 over 6?

In this era where everybody and their mother scores 20+ pts, I don't think even Luka can carry a team. Even the worst teams are putting up almost 110 ppg. He's tried doing that in the past 6 or so games he's played in and they've won maybe 3 - and 2 of those wins were against the Spurs and Blazers. He's also putting up monster minutes in some of those games, too. They just "rested" him again tonight, I think. Oddly enough, it looks like they played the TWolves tonight ok without Kyrie or him (I didn't watch). He needs help, like... from Kyrie if they have a chance. If you put Luka on the Pistons, they'd be better, but I don't know how much better. Maybe a .500 team? I don't know - maybe even that's an exaggeration.

Haha I was talking about 1 more Win at that time.....Pistons already blew it up, their only option is to restructure their franchise interiors.....

Cade is ass trash going on a hot streak shooting near 60% from the field recently. No way this hot streak continues and will regress back to his loserly 42% field goal norms.

There's a lack of leadership on the floor. While this probably does bring the team closer together as they endure the experience, they aren't getting the leadership they expected out of Cade. He has to make everyone better. It's not happening.

If Cade had a little of Jalen's athletic gift, god beware.

Cade just got injured. Probably out for the season.

Good news for Pistons fans; Cade will still be in his second year next year during his 4th year.

Forever a sophmore. Forever suckage. Forever a bust.

Pistons might break their record in the same season if Cade sits out the rest of the year. Now that would be legendary lol.

Also I'm pretty sure with 80M in the bank Monty is happy even if it's his last coaching job ever. He is still getting paid 21M by the Suns so bro is set for life and was already set for life anyway.

Cade making a significant jump toward his touted potential, career-high points, free throw rate, efficiency, and assists

Pistons Expected To Offer Max Extension To Cade Cunningham

Cade Cunningham becomes eligible for a contract extension this offseason along with his fellow 2021 draft class members.

While Cunningham missed most of his second NBA season and the Detroit Pistons struggled in 23-24, James L. Edward III of The Athletic reports that all signs point to him signing a max extension.

"I’m 99.9 percent sure that Cunningham gets an extension this offseason," writes Edwards. "I don’t want to say 100 percent because you never know what can happen, but I’d be stunned if the 2021 No. 1 overall pick doesn’t sign a max rookie extension."

Cunningham averaged 22.7 points, 7.5 assists and 4.3 rebounds while shooting 35 percent on three-pointers. Cunningham made meaningful improvements with his efficiency amid Detroit's struggles.

Cunningham is represented by Jeff Schwartz and James Dunleavy.
