He is miles away better than #1-#15 all players... He is the best. His legacy will be like Jokic, of course Jokic's draft story was more silly, you draft world's best player during TV Commercials, these examples show how much ignorant NBA teams are of European talent assessment.. Although Presti does not seem to accept it, but today He would give all assets except Shai and Chet, to take Sengun back.
Credit to Coach Ime for challenging Sengun two games ago (Silas never did this with the youth). Ime benched Sengun in the 4th for poor pick and roll defense. Sengun responded to the challenge like a man and then comes out and has his best game of the season last night.
Alpi did go through a bit of a slump once DD started talking positively about him . But he is too good, so he bounced back.
DD is one of the first ones to get off the train of those who do not believe in Sengun. But it's more interesting that there are still people on that train...
I like the trend of Skilled + High IQ players who are now emerging as leaders in the NBA. Doncic, Jokic, Sengun, Sabonis -- big guys who can distribute the ball and have great vision and anticipation. Way more fun to watch as a basketball fan than just raw athleticism. Also, 5 of the top 7 leaders in win shares this season are international players. The last 5 MVP winners were international players. Cause for concern that American players are falling behind in terms of skill?
90 percent of American scouts are people who don't understand anything about potential. They evaluate players based on stereotypical stereotypes such as wingspan, lateral speed, shooting percentage, PR defense, etc. and miss stars with potential. They become obsessively attached to the trends they create within themselves. If Europeans did well in one draft, they pick trash Europeans in the next draft, etc. They don't take into account things like hand speed, game intelligence, motor, killer instinct, star shooter instinct. The reason why they couldn't analyze stars like Donovan Mitchel, Jokic, Doncic well was that they were too focused on physics. Now they are ignoring Alperen's superstar instinct. Two years later they will say how we missed it. But I still think that OKC, which is the best team in sensing player potential, will withdraw from 6th place, or fall back in the rankings and choose Alperen from 9-10th place. It's like they already made room for him. https://eksisozluk1999.com/entry/125083604 In 2021, before the draft, a forum writer in Turkey wrote these for Alperen, this person is not a scout or anything, but any normal writer like those here. I apologize if there is a translation error
I'm starting to think Sengun's flexibility is a top-level skill. My man just makes some shots that should never even come close given the body position at the time of the release. He has that rare ability to isolate parts of his body in mid-air/mid-movement to get a solid shot. He rarely looks elegant, but hey, Semper Gumby!
it is definitely a top-level skill, especially for a guy who can’t jump high without movement. He would have gotten blocked much more often if he wasn’t using his flexibility to create space.
What I'm talking about is different though. Those efforts are primarily to prevent injury. Sengun uses his flexibility in the game in a way few others do. And again, he takes shots off of platforms where his flexibility gives him an advantage but wouldn't stand a chance of going in if he didn't have the mental side and body control to create a stable platform out of an unconventional/ad hoc position.
Amazing what happens when you run the offense through Sengun like Denver does with Jokic. Many of us were begging for it last year. Now if Green could take a step forward or trade for someone like Donovan Mitchell we’d be a serious contender within another year.
