This is for Jeff, or oeilpere, or Doc Rocket or anybody, now that it seems that Dream wants to go, is there ANYWAY the Rockets could at least catch Denver's attention regarding LaFrentz? Unless Dream has a change of heart and takes the offer, the Rockets should pursue LaFrentz, or at least another big man. ------------------ What if I say to you that the universe is a three-legged horse, eh? Could someone please tell me what is so good about LaFrentz? If he is such a good player, why do the sub.500 Nuggets want to get rid of him? ------------------ Protrolls.com! The next person to post on my message board will win a prize! The ZRBucks!
Well look at his numbers. And no, playing on a "bad" team (and Denver isn't that bad a team) doesn't mean anything, because you play against the same people. LaFrentz averaged about 13 points, 8 rebounds, and over 2 blocked shots per game, something the Rockets sorely lack. I don't know if Denver is trying to get rid of him, or if he plans to walk, but this is the same organization that originally lost McDyess, and lost Mutombo. ------------------ What if I say to you that the universe is a three-legged horse, eh? Got to agree with ZRB here. Besides LaFrentz is not a free agent. Just what we need another PF that plays center. ------------------ "Mongo don't know! Mongo only pawn in game of life."
I didn't say he was a free agent, I'm talking about trade, something oeilpere kind of hinted at. And what is it with people constantly saying someone is a "PF" who plays center. If we go by that logic, the only centers in the NBA are Shaq, David Robinson, and Mutombo, everybody else, even Mourning, are PFs. If the guy plays like a center, and LaFrentz does, and he is available, which I'm not sure of, go for it! ------------------ What if I say to you that the universe is a three-legged horse, eh? I am not really informed on all the cap rules, etc, but it seems like we aren't going to get a good deal in any sign and trade. At least the plausible ones I've heard of? That being the case, why don't the Rockets just renounce his rights and then he can only sign outright with someother team. Why take on another crappy contract? I could be way off base in my comments, so let me know. (In a nice way) ------------------
RM, There is a possibility for Marc Jackson in a three way S&T deal with Toronto that involves Hakeem. Again this is looking at it from a cap view only See.... http://bbs.clutchcity.net/ubb/Forum3/HTML/014281.html ------------------ "Mongo don't know! Mongo only pawn in game of life."
The thing is though, there are people who don't want Marc Jackson because they think HE is a PF. I just don't understand, if you put up good numbers, and you play the center position well, and you're 6-11 like LaFrentz, why would he be qualified as a PF? And Marc Jackson, at 260 and 6-10 is also labeled a PF. ------------------ What if I say to you that the universe is a three-legged horse, eh? What then? - Russell Hoban
Is Dream really that ignorant? I mean cant this man be reasoned with? Does he not see that the Rockets CAN NOT offer him more than they allready have without jeppordizing the future of the team? CD should just ask Dream one simple question: would you rather be paid 10 mill for the next year to LOSE or 5 mill and WIN? I mean Dream has plenty of doe at this point of time in his career. What does he really need that extra 5 mill for? He even said himself that he thought the Rockets should try to resign their nucleus. How can the Rockets do that if they have to pay Dream 10 mill? ------------------ Life quotes: -Statistics are like a bikini; what they reveal is suggestive, but what they conceal is vital.
Not trying to start trouble, AND not saying that choosing Moochie, S. Anderson, and Mo Taylor V. Hakeem is wrong, BUT in two years I would guess that at least 2 of those 3 guys will be seen by Rocket fans as VERY mediocre, at best. Possibly all three. How do Rocket fans see T. Best, Al Harrington, and Austin Croshere? Get my point. I would not sign Mo Taylor or even moreso S. Anderson and throw that money at Hakeem. It just seems right to not keep 1 of the 3 pretty good pros and keep Hakeem in Houston, IMO. If that is all it takes. But I do see the point of him being 38 years old. Welcome, now, to the club of about 24 other teams in the NBA that don't have a very good or true center. ------------------ http://jonathanbender.8m.com http://alharrington.8m.com http://jermaineoneal.8m.com
I'm all for getting rid of Shandon to keep Hakeem. I assume that would tack on a few mil this year at least. ------------------
I've been lurking around these parts for a while now, and up until this point, I haven't really felt the need to respond (or register, but that's a different story). With Hakeem's future with the Rockets very much in doubt as of this moment, I feel somewhat compelled to say my goodbyes now to lessen the severity of the blow (when and if it does come). So here goes: Hakeem, you were the greatest Rocket to ever play basketball. You were also a great member of the Houston community. I was proud to call you a Houstonian. You brought me much joy over the years (unlike those awful, awful Jazz), and I still remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when the Rockets won both NBA titles. You will always remain my favorite basketball player of all time. If you do sign with another team, you may out of sight, but you certainly won't be out of mind. 10-4, Big buddy. I feel better already... ------------------ I am the Kwisatz Haderach.
Well, this really hurts me where I live. It looks like what Hakeem said about how Houston was home to him and how he wanted to work at trying to negotiate a new contract with the Rockets has turned out to be total B.S.! Oh, and not to mention how he wanted to keep the entire team together. Damn, I am REALLY ANGRY about this. Yeah, living in a city and state with NO income tax and making $4 million per year is really a tough road to take, huh Hakeem?? If Dream wanted to retire as anything but a Rocket, he could have let Les and Rudy know so that this situation would have been resolved sooner. At the very least, they could have gotten Kevin Willis back to Houston. Former Rocket Eddie Johnson once said it best: "If you can't live on $1 million per year, you've got problems." Right on! ------------------ HOUSTON Rockets forever!!
Hakeem's been taking us on a ride for the last 2 years. $31 million, constant injuries, hints (maybe more than hints, really) at retirement at the end of this past year, proclamations of his ability not having left, his ability, when healthy, actually not having left, public statements expressing his excitement with the new team, public statements expressing his concern over his role, on and on. ------------------
You know what I think. I thikn Dream doesn't understand half the words that are comin outta Fegan's mouth and Fegan's takin advantage of it. I know, I'm sure, that if I(or anyone) was allowed to talk to him in ARABIC, and explain to him all the problems, the slary cap situation, and why we're offering him this much, he would understand too. Don't label Hakeem as greedy. This wouldn't have happened if his agent wasn't Fegan. I spoke to Hakeem when he was in Jordan this summer for a while. As he was walkin by, I asked him for his signature, and asked him what his intentions are. He said he wants to be a Rocket till he retires, but he also wants to be respected. Hakeem doesn't want 10M, fegan wants HIS cut of 10M. That's my take on the situation... ------------------
I can't wait till Raef suits up in his Rox Pj's. I wonder what number he'll wear since his #45 is already retired for RT... ------------------
Isn't Fegan the same guy that allowed one of his clients to sign for far less money in Houston rather than Utah? Keep on blaming the agent if it will keep your good memories of Dream intact. Mine will remain despite the knowledge that this is Hakeem's decision, not Fegan's. ------------------ When you make an assumption, you make an ass out of Uma Thurman.
Let's not put all of our eggs in one basket here, I know everybody wants some closure to this but it is just an article. Hakeem may surprise us all tomorrow. ------------------
Jeff, If this started before camp, then that was all lies from Dream and Rudy in camp about not being sure if Dream's breathing was OK. Would they have a disagreement unless Dream felt 100% physically? Does anyone else remember that they were discussing not knowing if Dream was OK right before the season. I'm so close to believing that many of the Dream "injuries" were cover ups by Rudy and Dream to hide conflict from the media. Now there is a conspiracy theory!! lol
Hakeem has been living in America for 20 years. I am almost certain that he is fluent in English. Maybe you are mistaking his accent for a lack of command of the English language. ------------------ I cut all the heads off of a Hydra, and all I got was this StupidMoniker.
