Stephen Silas probably ruined the development of many of our young players. I'm not a big fan of Green but there's no way Green wouldn't be better if he had an actual head coach the first two years (the most important years according to many former NBA stars) My AAU coach was a far better coach than Silas could ever dream of being. And I'm dead serious.
You could say that about LaMelo Ball, if he had a much better coach, he would be even better. And about any good player on a bad team.
It sounds like you’re trying to justify it. It should make every Rockets fan furious. We from a distance on a 25+ year old forum could see it happening, why couldn’t the front office?
I am not sitting in the FO.....but that was the strategy they implemented........suck for 3 years and they got a sucky coach for it. I mean from a perspective, they actually succeeded......they drafted 3 questionable star players (good lord Tari and Alpe were godsent) KPJ was a failure, Wood was a failure, most of the signings under Silas were failures in the end. I think what they overlooked is that it is never as simple as they think it is.......... Tanking leads to less interest on the market, players tend to laugh at the franchise etc...... But at least get a veteran coach to tank with you instead of Silas, fully there with you!
There’s no doubt we are seeing a much better Jabrari Smith under Udoka. Coaching has possibly saved his career. Jalen, on the other hand, has regressed as he averaged 20+ points per game with Silas. Thing is that watching Green now I actually see him rebounding and passing much better (as the season progresses). He also is part of the number one defense in the league, so maybe the drop in offensive numbers doesn’t me he isn’t making meaningful strides under Udoka.
Yes, the player is part of the team but business wise he is an individual who is there to multiply his value and earn a much bigger contract. He has not done so at this point. This team player tag does not raise his value.....it might help him stick with this team though. It is not worrisome but noteworthy that on the road Dillon Brooks and FVV are playing much better, and Jalen and Bari are not hitting their shots. My objective to gradually let Brooks fade out of the line up has not come to fruition .....and FVV taking a minor role.
i still shake my head whenever someone claims that the FO "succeeded" at tanking with the Silas-KPJ tandem, as if losing is the only thing that matters in a rebuilding process and that losing needs some kind of genius mind to succeed.
The best way to circumvent it is a relegation/demotion system......you might still get a lotto pick but play in the 2nd league.... That way you are forcing teams with potential star players to play in the 2nd league until promotion and therefore also attracting an audience and viewers.
No first or second year coach is going to jeopardize his career by losing on purpose. If he doesn’t win he’ll get fired or not be hired elsewhere. Look, Silas is a great human but sucks big time as a coach. Players were not disciplined and ran circles around him.
Congrats to our former fearless leader who broke the all-time record of NBA futility last night with his 26th loss in a row. Eat crow all you horrible posters who went after me for saying he wasn’t a good head coach. There were so many Silas lovers on this board and so very few people who actually could see the reality and it wasn’t just because of youth.
Is this true? People were saying he was a good coach? He's also not the pistons coach just for the record, can't give Ime credit for the rockets but then blame silas for Detroit (unless you think one of the assistants is responsible for the team, in which case fair enough)
The NBA is a results business. We're seeing results after year 3, while other teams like the Pelicans, Pistons & Spurs are crumbling. Stone succeeded & should be applauded
The Spurs also lost about 20 in a row. Is Pop as incompetent as you claim Silas is? They also have a generational talent in Wemby. There is literally no difference in what we did and the Spurs the last few years
I can't believe Clutch didn't ban the OP and everyone who posted in this thread. Including me. Actually I'm surprised he didn't delete Clutchfans after this
I do. I remember spending much less time on the Rockets, and I miss having that extra time for other things.
