What got me is that when you're tanking, you're given carte blanche to do whatever whacky nonsense on a basketball court that you want. We could of had Point Sengun, Jabari doing his best Dirk impression, we could have tried Tari and Jabari on the floor at the same time, Sengun and Garuba P&Rs, try to solidify the Sengun-Green two man game, have Tari run the offense, have KPJ as an off ball guard and set a thousand screens for him, the possibilities are endless. Given the youth of the roster, it wouldn't have lead to many wins but would have developed quite a bit of valuable experience in different lineups and scenarios. Instead, we got nothing but KPJ ISOs broken up by Green ISOs. Not only was the offense terrible, it was uncreative.
I mean even if the rockets had the best coach in the league we still would’ve been trash. Dusty possibly swung a championship
Tilman literally said “pray for Wemby.” The Rockets brass wanted as many ping pong balls as possible.
That was at the point when the season's ship had already sailed (and sunk). I very much think there was hope before the season began that we could be competitive... but there probably wasn't a ton of pressure to be.
Having a bad record and learning can happen at the same time. We sound like a broken record. Tanking doesn't mean not developing your young guys with good habits. Like expecting players to show up to practice on time. And not allow temper tantrum to your coaches. Being organized and learning to be a professional. It's literally what Sengun said: 'we're more organized this year (under Ime)'. Thunder had good players they can 'shut down' by sitting them (SGA), if they 'won too much'. Cavs had Allen before his all star year and still got Mobley. Tanking doesn't excuses the minimum team suspension on Wood and KPJ when they stepped out of bounds, and culture was rotting. Tanking doesn't mean not playing defense, because Magic was trying/learning to play good defense even as they had a losing record. Why is Green's fundamentals being taught now and playing into a team concept as opposed to his first couple years. Silas said to introduce the more advanced plays slowly (like in year 2). Ime challenged the team day 1. You bring your students up, not dumb down the curriculum. It's not just a disservice to the team and fan base, but to the players themselves, because when these guys are no longer on the Rockets, other teams will not play them much, because they lag in skills and knowledge. You can have a low win season and still taught the players how to play proper NBA ball. As lot of us said when Ime got here, it'll be an improvement, but have to be patient because the young core is playing catch up (because of Silas' program).
This is just me, but I truly believe this exact squad under Silas with his lack of discipline, defense, gameplan, etc, would be 3-19….best case scenario 4-18. I am being generous in not saying 2-20 or worse. On the positive side, Silas was a very nice guy and I liked that he smiled after games and you would have never seen him ejected for getting into it with Lebron and calling him a soft a$& b$&@/.
Silas was absolutely a terrible coach. Our young guys learned absolutely nothing from him. It is possible to both tank and prepare the young guys for the future at the same time. He also was not a nice guy either. Crying like a little b**** does not equal being a nice guy. If he was still here we would be in the running for the top pick yet again.
The problem wasn't hating Silas. The problem was starting a thread after every loss like we didn't all know he was trash.
I can agree to this and also think that Silas would not have been extended/brought back even if he did all of that. Stone constantly pushed or forced lineups at times like Morey, and their favoritism for spotlighting KPJ despite outbursts like the Soup Incident made Silas a coach without respect or authority. Once the tank was in and cost cutting from above (2Billion doesn't grow from trees), Silas was in a dead end job and started acting like it midway. They wanted him to fail for lotto picks and he was better off being a scapegoat for the shitshow FO that former players confirmed in every other podcast. They pivoted hard with Ime, and folks on here love Stone a lot more than they did last year. It's a **** attitude for a rookie coach who needed to learn, but I think the league won't ding him over time too much given the situation.
There's no excuse for Silas. He took the job when he was not ready and the Rockets gave him the whole three years to figure it out. You can blame it on Tilman or Stone or the situation he was putting in, but the lack of improvements for three years is unacceptable. At the end of the day, you are a coach and you are professional, Stone is not a professional in coaching. You shouldn't let someone push you around even he can fire you. If you are a lawyer, would you let your clients pushing you around? Your client can lay you off but you should know what you should do because you are professional. That's why they paid you awesome money for your service. I don't understand why people keep making excuses for Silas, but no people feel sympathy for the young players he destroyed, including but not limited to JC, Garuba, Tyty. I was watching JC playing at the G league another day and he was fine. I wondered if he played under a decent coach his career would be totally different. Silas can still ride his dad's reputation until he retired. How about those young guys?
Those who miss him can go and watch Detroit games. He took his mediocrity there and they haven't won in 24 games. The man is absolutely cursed and incompetent.
Hes not the head coach and what does that say about Pop the last few years - if your boss want you to lose and have a top 3 pick then guess what you have to lose a certain amount of games … only idiots fail to grasp that concept.
If Monty Williams is fired, then he gets to keep a **** ton of money and we get to watch Silas coach again. I don’t know if the NBA is ready
