Success of this franchise begins or ends with the health of Stroud. They need to follow the Ladd Herzeg/Mike Holovak
model of Munchak, Matthews, Steinkuhler, and Salem.

I think a deal with Mike Evans to play his last few seasons at home would be a great move

Not too expensive for next 3 years while CJ is on his rookie deal. Texans have needs but it seems worse because of health. Also have the draft to fill some of those needs. They should sign one of Chris Jones or Christian Wilkins this summer.

Their biggest need is a great pass rush defensive player. Our pass defense is the weakest part of our team! You don't get the best players by simply letting others who are willing to pay for them take them. I'd also like a better offensive lineman to replace one of our weaker guys. CJ could use more time in the huddle, and the best protection we can give him.

Sure, a WR like Evans would be great, and give CJ another target, but that's not our biggest weakness by far. CJ was able to set passing records with what we've got. Unless Tank or Collins can never play again, I'd prefer to get wide receivers and another running back in the draft than pass up an opportunity to get someone like Chris Jones. We need a defense that scares the hell out of the quarterbacks we face, and one that has them rushed and making mistakes. I'm tired of all the times I've watched backup mediocre nobody QBs look awesome against us.

You know DM is going to want an extension after year three.

But Wilkins would make a huge difference in the defense.

If anybody's worth that kinda money, it would be Chris Jones. With this said give me Wilkins.

He is not worth it to the Texans. Texans can get alteast 2 players at that money.

Can they get 2 game changers?

I think they can add a guy like Wilkins and Queen or Al Shaair.

The purpose of this thread was to pose the question how much room does the board think the Texans actually have to spend on outside free agents? I think they bring back Greenard, Cashman, Rankins, Schultz and one of either Jones or Fant to be the swing OT. Does that leave them with the cap space to go big game hunting or will they be relegated to finding cost effective guys (and rookies) to fill their roster holes?

72Ms in cap space as of today. I think you can cut Woods and gain another 10Ms, but dont quote me on that. Question is how much will resigning our guys cost? How much will be left over? I think we should go big game hunting to give the team an edge and introduce ourselves as contenders. Saavy spending on the DL would have a domino effect on the back end. OL should not break the bank. Sign a marquee receiver to go alongside CJ. I think it all boils down to how much Greenard and the other FAs demand especially Greenard who played on the most team friendly contract in the NFL. Would he take a hometown discount of 15-18Ms annually long term with most of it guranteed?

    Woods would save $6.5M

I don't think we have the cap to use like we think. All these guys are FAs:

    Sheldon Rankins
    Dalton Schultz
    Derek Barnett
    Jerry Hughes
    Steven Nelson
    Kaimi Fairbairn
    Eric Murray
    Hassan Ridgeway
    George Fant
    Devin Singletary
    Cameron Johnston
    Noah Brown
    Denzel Perryman
    Tavierre Thomas
    Scott Quessenberry
    Dare Ogunbowale
    Jon Weeks
    Neville Hewitt
    Jon Greenard
    Charlie Heck

The 2024 draft almost ensures 5-6 of these guys don't make the team.
