We would still need a big, cheap body at center, and as long as we're talking about the Skinners of the world, how about Mamadou N'diaye and a #1 for Hakeem?

He makes less than $1Mil, played well in the summer leagues, and is a legitimate 7 footer. That way, the Rockets wouldn't be forced to overpay someone like Marc Jackson, just to get enough centers on the roster.

I know he was traded from LA to Chicago. Then from Chicago to Toronto. Is that the limit, or does Toronto just want to keep him?

You know, all of this back and forth about which big man we should replace Hakeem with would be a moot point if Cato could f***in' play!!!

But, since he can't, I say we don't trade for anybody on Toronto unless it's Keon Clark (and that ain't gonna happen). The rest of they players available would needlessly take up cap space.

Also, if we're not gonna pick up a decent player or get a decent draft pick, why the hell would we sign and trade Hakeen anyway? Just so HE can get a couple more million? We already know he doesn't want to play here, and he does want to play in Toronto (for roughly the same amount of money) so let him go. We don't need to be doing him or the Raptors any more favors.

-- Despite how this post sounds, I desperately want to see Hakeem back here, and I'll be sobbing endlessly if/when he's gone. --

Keon Clark would be nice. He's Kelvin Cato with more heart and energy, though a little bit on the thin side.

I honestly think MoPete is the best guy we could reasonably get. Yeah, we have small forwards but with his acquisition Shandon would be expendable. Not to mention, he's better than any SF we have(Griffin is a PF).

    Guys...

Mo Pete is our starting SF. You will NOT get him or Keon Clark. I guarantee it will NOT happen.

Expect a poor pick, Michael Stewart, Brian Skinner, Eric Montross, Tracy Murray or the trade exception we got from the Oak trade in return.

I'm not hating, just telling the truth. You really have no chance at Clark or Peterson.

If the Rockets can't find a favorable sign and trade with Toronto, couldn't we screw them by just not making a trade? I might be wrong, but I don't think Toronto has enough cap space to sign Dream outright.

The Rockets would obviously be getting the Raptors' $5 mil trade exception. The question is what else would they be getting? I think Keon Clark is wishful thinking. Clark still would play a valuable role next season in Toronto. He'd back up Dream with Davis playing PF. Plus, WHEN Hakeem goes on the shelf with injuries, Clark will back up Davis at C.

It appears that the Rockets would be getting a first round (or possibly even second round) pick. They will just try to get the "best" pick in Toronto's possession if they can.

If anyone knows what "draft pick benefits and obligations" Toronto has, feel free to share.

What we need here is an unprotected, lottery-bound, "Otis-Thorpe-to-Vancouver" type of pick, a la Detroit. But likely not. [IMG]

Isn't that like saying Roseanne Barr is a little fat? I've seen starving children in Sally Struthers commercials with more meat on their bones.

Still, get the guy on the Charles Barkley diet for a few months and I'd bet he would fill out nicely.

Toronto has their own #1s and a lotto-protected #1 from Seattle. The Seattle pick is what I'd want. We won't get it next year, but when Seattle does finally make the playoffs again, that's a #14 to #18 or so pick. Not too bad.

Dream is definitely worth more than just a #1. Needs to be two #1 picks or at least a #1 and #2.
It's sad to see Dream leaving (more than likely), but with the way he has handled this, so be it.

I (and probably everyone else on here) would agree that Hakeem is worth more than just a #1.. But the Rockets just don't have any strength in this situation. They could refuse and make Hakeem sign for whatever Toronto can give him, but I think the class thing to do would be to try and accommodate here. That's what I'd like the Rockets to do, regardless of whether we feel Hakeem screwed us or not, we should take the high road- it will show fans (and future free agents) that we're a class organization. Go ahead and do the S&T, as long as we don't have to take crappy cap eaters- draft picks and an exception are better than nothing.

I'm a new poster, but I've been reading for a while. Too bad my first post has to be on such a sad topic. But enough of that, let's sign our other FA's and Jackson and see what Steve can do with the team.
