Chronicle hires Altuve-hater as Astros beat writer

One of the most common PR strategies today is the strategy of appearing to be the victim. This allows one to attempt to take hold of the fake moral high ground and turn the tables on a negative situation. Those who are astute and experienced can easily spot this. Not to get political here, but Hunter Biden did it last week. Tried to distract from spending millions of ill-gotten bribes on prostitutes and drugs to change the story to being "attacked for his struggle with addiction". This writer is employing the same approach. Be smart -- don't be fooled!

 

I've never even heard of Leah Vann until this past Wednesday, 12/13, when this hiring story broke. And I do lurk on Twitter/X.

I suspect that the vast majority of Astros fans, including many that lean hardcore, have never heard of her either. Thus, I'm getting "mountain out of a molehill" and "blown way out of proportion" vibes out of this, and tend to fall into the "who gives a s**t" camp.

I understand Astros fans disliking her, and that's fine. Leah has her work cut out for her, and she will need to get thicker skin. I can definitely understand disliking the Chron/Chronicle/whatever (that media outlet does indeed suck and has stank for 20+ years). It does appear to be a very unwise hiring decision, but I wouldn't put it past the Chronicle that they knew about her past Altuve comments and hired her anyway for engagement/controversy bait purposes.

Criticism is normal in her line of work. But jeez, some Astros fanatics have really crossed the line with the uncalled-for harassment.

Does not sound as if you remember the Post. Now that was a truly awful paper. Sadly after the Chronicle put them under it decided to become them and so the good people of Houston are represented by no-one in the news business at all.
